South PacicThis is a landmark production in many ways, bringing together local singer Stephen Hawkins making his debut as a director along with Maxine Burrows as choreographer and as local choir master Alex McNeice. Stephen Hawkins says, “I have had such fun directing South Pacific, working with the other members of the team, I think we have made an excellent squad. When everybody cares it really shows. My cast are a real dream line up. They are putting their hearts and souls into this show.” Another thing that is novel about this show is the help from local artist Shane Record. Once his daughter, Olive Bouraki (playing the part of Liat, Bloody Mary’s daughter) was cast he offered to assist by designer a poster. The poster for the show is based on a painting of Olive and means for the very first time one of FHODS poster can be called a true work of art.

TWO GREAT SHOWS THIS SUMMER.First is the legendary musical that is Cats. This show will be presented by the youngsters attending the FHODS/Beddow workshop. Having worked intensely on the show for two solid weeks there will be three performances, Friday 7th August at 7.00pm followed by two performances on Saturday 8th August at 2.30pm and 7.00pm. Those who have seen their shows before know of the quality maintained by these youngsters.
This will followed by Alice Hawkins’ debut as a director working with children of the FHODS Youth Section. This adaption of Washington Irvin’s spooky classic, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, has been adapted by Kathryn Schultz Miller from Artreach Children's plays. This show will run from the 17th–29th August at 7.30pm nightly.
The FHODS/Tower Theatre is pleased to bring a bumper summer programme, providing excellent entertainment and an opportunity for young people to show off their talent.
So please show your support!!
Directed by Pete Raine and Fanny Richmond
Listen very carefully – we will say this only once
This is a very funny stage version of the much-loved television series, complete with the famous sausage, Edith’s awful singing, and of course the Madonna with the big boobies.
The show will run from Sept 23rd to 26th. Auditions are on July 20th 7.00pm, with a read-through on July 15th at 7.30pm, both events at the Tower Theatre.
Further details of cast and characters will be in the next Highlights – but do let Pete and Fanny know if you want to register an interest in being involved with the show. [email protected].
Audition Notice for The WitchesThis November FHODS will present David Wood’s brilliant adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Witches at the Tower Theatre. This promises to be a real treat for the family, combining illusion, humour, puppetry and pathos!
John Boy and his Grandmother as they find themselves in a perilous battle to rid the world of child-hating witches and defeat the Grand High Witch herself.... what could go wrong?
Plus in association with local primary schools, FHODS have launched a poster competition! Children across Folkestone are designing a poster for The Witches and the winning entry will be adapted to create the final poster and programme for the show. Read-throughs and auditions will be held in august, dates to be confirmed. Please contact the director for The Witches, Ben Forrest [email protected] for more details.
Evening performances: 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th November at 7.30.
Matinees: 28th and 29th November at 2.30
