OGA/WHS Handicapping: The OGA’s posting season ended on November 30th and will resume March 1st. With changes to the GHIN system, all players must be inactivated before December 31st and reactivated for the next year. We will reactive players World Handicap System (WHS) accounts after receiving payment for the 2020 Men’s or Women’s Club dues. Please make sure to get your handicap reactivated before March 1st, which is when the posting season begins.

The Men’s and Women’s Club dues will be the following for 2020: Men’s Club- $92.00 Women’s Club- $65.00 These dues establish your official WHS handicap, allow you to play in Men’s or Women’s Club events, and provide Hole-in-One Insurance.

These dues were billed on December 31st and are reflected on the billing statement received in January. If you had a GHIN established through Arrowhead in 2019, you will automatically be billed for 2020 and transferred to WHS. If you have not established a handicap with Arrowhead in the past, now is the time to get it set up. Please see Golf Shop personnel for assistance in setting up your WHS account.

Also, with the new WHS platform coming, it will require each member to have a unique email address to use all the program’s features. This means that two players cannot share the same email address within the WHS system. If you share an email address with your spouse and both are in the WHS system, please let us know any alternative emails to use for WHS.

Thank you!

A big thank you from the Golf Shop and Maintenance Crew personnel for the gifts and delicious Christmas treats!

They are very much appreciated!

Happy New Year and welcome to 2020! We have had a great 2019, under the leadership of Sue O’Donnell who has graciously helped me move into the AWGA President’s position.

We finished out the year with our final event being the Christmas Luncheon on December 12th, organized by Kaye Bilyeu and Ev Johnston. It was a fun day, where our Chef Wade, wowed us with a delicious and beautifully presented lunch. Our charity this year was Bloomin’ Boutique, a very worthwhile non-profit to consider, located in Oregon City. Bingo & prizes finished up the day. Thank you to Kaye and Ev for a fantastic luncheon.

AWGA member Joan Arens invited everyone to her home on Dec. 16th for a viewing of her extensive collection of Christmas villages, trains, etc. and to enjoy refreshments and friendship. Thank you, Joan for your generous invitation. Your collection is a sight to behold!

While the weather is keeping some of us off the course, it is the perfect time to practice. How about a swing check up with our “Swing Doctor”, John Cassidy. He will get you on track and get the golf game that you know lives inside you ready for game day!

Golf chair, Chris Oviatt, is planning our game schedule for 2020. Our first day of scheduled play will start on March 12th, but our official opening day with breakfast, general meeting and Texas Scramble will be April 2nd.

Cheers! ~Sheryl Brower, AWGA President

Happy New Year and welcome to the 2020 golf season. I know you are all aware of a few changes to the handicap system. Once we start back up for the posting season it will be imperative to post scores on the date of play. With that also comes a new app from the World Handicap System that will be available after Jan 6th. Please be on the lookout for the new app, as it will make posting your scores very quick and easy!

We had the 1-Man Scramble in December and I would like to say “Congrats!” to Terry Paresi with a gross score of 61 and Matt Beiser netted a 57.4 in the A Flight. Scott Gascho led the B Flight with a gross 66 and Dallas Forbes finished with a net 62.2. We will be continuing the tee rotation and Pink Flag on Saturdays throughout the winter months, so check with the Golf Shop before teeing off to make sure you know everything that’s going on that day. The new tournament schedule will be out soon with a few changes from previous year’s events, so be sure to take a look at it when it shows up in your inbox.

We will be holding nominations for new Board members at the Annual Arrowhead Meeting. If you are interested, please let me know. We are always looking for new ideas to make our Men’s Club enjoyable for all our members. The next Meeting will be Feb 1, at 7:00 am at Legend’s Bar & Grill.

Adam and his crew have done a good job this winter keeping the course in superb playing condition. Please remember to leave the course in better shape than you found it: replace divots, fix ball marks, rake the bunkers, and use sand only after you replaced the divot. ~Jerry Calvin, Men’s Club President

With the new year comes all the new technology and advancements in golf clubs and golf balls. I always get excited to see what the manufactures have in store for us when they unveil the new products at the PGA Merchandise Show in Florida. Like every season, we will have the newest product for you to look at and try out. And, of course, I will be here to help answer any questions you may have. Typically, we start getting the new arrivals showing up in late-February, so keep an eye out.

I get asked often about set makeup and what clubs a particular person should or shouldn't have in their bag. There is no all-encompassing correct answer, and can vary drastically from person to person. My advice is to assess what clubs are most important to scoring your best, and what shots you seem to have the most often. An example could be someone who doesn't hit a lot of greens in regulation due to lack of length. This person is going to benefit more from having higher lofted woods and hybrids, since they will be using these clubs on most holes versus having four wedges. A longer hitting, low-handicap player will most likely benefit by having multiple wedges with good yardage gaps in their bag versus having multiple hybrids. Again, like most things in golf it all depends on the individual, but if we can only have 14 clubs, they all should have a purpose and benefit to our scores. If you have questions or would like some help getting your set dialed in let us know in the Shop or shoot me an email. ([email protected]) Here’s to a great 2020 season!

~John Cassidy, Lead Teaching Professional

Another great year is in the books! As usual, these next few months will bring plenty of frost and rain. Please avoid all of the typical wet spots when driving around out there. We’ve put rope up to help to avoid many of these areas.

We’ve been working on a couple different projects as of late. One is the new hedge row of Portuguese Laurels along holes 3 and 4. We currently have 200 plants in the ground, and will be planting the next batch of 120 plants over the coming weeks. The other project is changing the mowing pattern of tee boxes. Many people are curious what all the red lines out there are...these are the new edges of the tee boxes. Outside the line will eventually become rough height.

Now let’s just hope for a mild rest of winter without any major wind and ice storms! These events cause the most and worst damage to the course. But I’m sure we’ll have at least one event…like we always do.

Looking forward to a speedy rest of the winter and getting ready for the upcoming golf season in the spring. I hope many of you will be able to take advantage of the few nice winter days we will be having these next few months.

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

~Adam Vidourek, Superintendent
