In the beginning….

Distance Learning in CA Adult Ed

1993, CA Legislature passed EC 52522 Authorizes the SPI to approve adult school plans

to approve up to 5 percent of their block entitlement on innovative and alternative instructional delivery

The program effectively started in 1995

CA Education Code 52522

In June 2001, LAUSD requests a waiver of the 5% cap. SBE grants a waiver for LA for up to 7%

July 1, 2008, OTAN assumes Leadership Project responsibility for distance learning

On September 30, 2008 Governor Schwarzenegger signs AB 1163 authorizing up to 15%
