Gear change thresholds 23

The figures quoted in the table are the theoretical average values for gear changing in km/ h tolerances = ±10 %.

PL : N o load .

PF : Fu ll load .

RC : Kickd ow n

A : Gear change thresholds lowered. Gears are engaged at lower engine speeds. Switch (1) is not d epressed

and the tell-tale EXC is extinguished .

B : Gear change thresholds raised. Gears are engaged at higher engine speeds. Switch (1) is depressed and

the tell-tale EXC is illuminated.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Oil change frequency 23

The mechanism shou ld be dr ained at a m ajor service.

The oil level shou ld be checked every 10000 miles (15 000 km) if there is a slight oil leak.

The final drive oil is not changed; it is filled for life.

The strainer is not systematically replaced.

Oil capacity

NOTE : if the automatic transmission is replaced, only the level needs to be checked, as the transmission is

supplied fil led w ith oil by the Parts Department.

TOTAL volume

MECHANISM 5.7 litres

FINAL DRIVE 1 litre

ELECTRONIC FAULT WARNING LIGHT MESSAGE

Operation w ith no fault present:

• The warning light does not illuminate du ring

normal operation wh en the engine is started or

when it is run ning, whether the vehicle is

stationary or moving.

Fault present:

• Vehicle stationary, engine running or driving,

the w arning light is permanently illuminated.

• Vehicle moving, the warning light illuminates

and extingu ishes with no action at the ignition

key.

• Vehicle moving, the warning light illuminates

briefly.

Oil temperature < - 20 °C or > + 140 °C

• Vehicle moving or stationary, the warning light

flashes approximately once a second. In this

case, reduce the engine load by mod erating

acceleration.

Mechanism

The mechanism hou sing has two plugs:

A Level plu g

B Drain plug (triangular imprint)

The transmission is drained by remov ing p lug (B).

Final drive

The transm ission is filled an d the level is checked

using p lug (C) by overflow after injecting oil.

1 - Vehicle on a 4 post lift, transmission at am-

bient temperature.

2 - Start the engine, autom atic transmission se-

lector lever in Park.

3 - Connect the XR25, then enter:

D 1 4 then # 0 4

4 - Lift the vehicle and let the engine run un til it

reaches a temp eratur e of 60 °C.

5 - When the required temperature is reached,

engine runn ing, open the level plug; let the

excess oil drain of f (must be more than 0.1 li-

tres) for approximately 20 seconds. Refit theplug.

6 - If the volum e of oil collected is less than 0.1 li-

tres , the level is incorrect and the op eration

mu st be repeated.

In this case, add 1 litre of recommend ed oil and let

the transm ission cool dow n before repeating the

operations in the correct order.

Filling - Levels 23

FILLING - LEVELS

Filling is via tu be (D).

Use a funn el with a 15/100 strainer to avoid the

introduction of impurities.

The level MUST be checked following the meth od

described below:

Before checking th e level:

- if the transmission has been drained, add 3.5 li-

tres of oil,

- if the level is just being checked, add 0.5 litres

of recommend ed oil.

Tighten the front sub-frame moun ting bolts to a

torque of 6 daN.m. and the rear bolts to a torqueof 11 daN.m.

Tighten all bolts and nu ts to the

recommend ed torque.

Fit the caliper mou nting bolts using Loctite

FRENBLOC and torqu e tighten them .

Press the brake pedal several times to bring the

pistons into contact w ith the brake pad s.
