1 Item and range of use

1.1 Item 1.1.1.1 This technical approval test certificate is valid for the manufacture of the fail-locked electric strikes listed in Appendix 2 and for their use as mechatronic striking plates in single-leaf and two-leaf fire doors and smoke protection doors. 1.1.2 Details of the design variations and the required rated operating voltages or operating

pressures are given in the specifications in Appendix 2. 1.1.3 The electric strikes may only be manufactured in the production facilities

specified in Appendix 1. 1.1.4 This technical approval test certificate is issued in accordance with Building Rules

List A, part 2, ser. no. 2.11.

1.2 Range of use 1.2.1 These electric strikes are intended to be fitted into suitable striking plates. They are

designed to disengage the latch when energized, thus unlocking the door. In a de-energized state, the electric strike acts like a standard striking plate and keeps the fire door or smoke protection door in a closed position, even when subjected to fire load.

1.2.2 Without further testing, use of these strikes is restricted to door leaves weighing a maximum of 200 kg.

1.2.3 The electric strikes may only be used on hinged doors in conjunction with door closers which comply with DIN 18263-15), DIN 18263-46) or DIN EN 11547).

1.2.4 The strikes are only suitable for locks and locking systems with spring-mounted latches. Latch bolts must comply with requirements specified in DIN 18250 8) or DIN 4102-18 3).

1.2.5 The electric strikes must not be used in conjunction with locks equipped with fixed locking bolts (e.g. shoot bolts).

1.2.6 Model variations with a latch bolt guide must be used in non-rebated doors or doors with deep-set rebates.

1.2.7 The electric strikes can only be used in fire doors within the indicated range of use if the technical approval for the respective fire door regulates the use of electric strikes.

1.2.8 The electric strikes can only be used in smoke barriers within the indicated range of use if the technical approval for the respective smoke protection door covers regulates the use of electric strikes without any additional restrictions.

2 Requirements for the construction product 2.1 General 2.1.1 The electric strikes must comply with the requirements indicated in this technical

approval test certificate, the specifications in Appendix 1 and the specifications in the detailed drawings submitted to the test centre at the MPA NRW (Materialprüfungsamt Nordrhein-Westfalen - Materials Testing Office of North Rhine-Westphalia).

2.1.2 The manufacturer must provide instructions regarding installation, adjustment and maintenance for the electric strikes wherever necessary.

2.1.3 To install the electric strikes, suitable corner striking plates must be at least 2.5 mm thick, while flat striking plates must be at least 3.0 mm thick. The electric strikes are fastened to striking plates using two M4 screws. The dimensions for the openings required in the striking plates are indicated in the drawings in Appendix 1.

2.2 Characteristics

2.2.1 The electric strikes must be permanently fully functional when used in conjunction with a door leaf weighing at least 200 kg.

2.2.2 In the case of fire doors, the mechanical components in the electric strikes must be made of materials which have a melting point above 1000 °C.

2.2.3 The latch bolt must be able to retract about 6 mm into the electric strike. 2.2.4 Damage or potential damage to the mechatronic components in the electric strike must

not cause the electric strike to remain in a ‘permanently open position’. 2.2.5 Alternating current (AC) models are preferable in the case of doors which require

increased force on the door strike latch when closed due to design characteristics such as seals. This particularly applies in cases where the door is fitted with a swivel door drive.

2.2.6 The electric strikes may only be used in dry rooms with a non-corrosive atmosphere, unless they have further documented evidence of conformity for other uses.

2.3 Test methods to be used

2.3.1 Proof of durability must be provided based on tests involving 200,000 test cycles on three test specimens in accordance with DIN 4102-18 3) or DIN 1191 16). The door opening process should be initiated by energising the electric strike and not by operating the handle; the door should then be opened using the door opening device. The test procedure used differs from the one in 6.1 DIN 4102-18:1991-03 in this respect.

2.3.2 Proof of durability is considered provided if no breaks, cracks or other damage which would prevent the electric strike from functioning correctly are detected on any of the test specimens once testing (see 2.3.1) is complete.

2.3.3 The mechatronic components must undergo a failure analysis.

2.4 Marking

2.4.1 The following details must be permanently affixed to each electric strike: ■ Manufacturer’s mark ■ Year of manufacture ■ Type designation ■ Info regarding rated operating voltage ■ The CE mark as proof of conformity with Directives 73/23/EC and 89/336/EC ■ A mark assigned by the external monitoring authority if required

3 Proof of conformity 3.1 Conformity

Proof of conformity with this technical approval test certificate must be provided for each production plant in the form of a certificate of compliance issued by an approved certification authority in accordance with Building Rules List A, part 2 9), ser. no. 2.11. To this end, the manufacturer will engage an approved certification authority, as well as an approved external inspection agency to carry out the required external inspection as indicated by the certification authority.

3.2 Factory production control The manufacture will establish a factory production control system to ensure consistent quality in manufactured products. Besides controls during the production process, this mainly involves checks and tests on the finished product. On a quarterly basis, at least one electric strike from each product model series must be taken as a random sample during ongoing production and tested for compliance with requirements. The samples taken must be varied in such a way as to ensure that the test frequency matches the manufacturing volume as far as possible. In doing so, allowances can be made for testing of identical assemblies (modular systems). The inspection agreement will govern any further details as necessary. All test results from the factory production control system must be recorded and retained for at least five years. These records must be submitted to the inspection authority. The provisions in Building Code A9) governing factory production control apply.

3.3 External inspection

The provisions of the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) 9) (German Institute of Building Technology) or the provisions specified in DIN 18200 10) apply to the implementation of external inspections. External inspections will take place on a twice yearly basis. The requirement for sampling and subsequent product testing at the testing centre in compliance with DIN 4102-183) or DIN 119116) can be waived, provided the manufacturer has carried out a sufficiently large number of tests on products within its factory production control system.

4 Mark of Conformity (Ü mark) The manufacturer must label each building product with the Mark of Conformity (Ü mark) in line with the German Federal States’ Mark of Conformity Ordinance12). The Ü mark and the required details must be displayed on the building product, on its packaging (an enclosed leaflet or label is also considered valid) or, if this is not possible, on the delivery note.



5 Legal basis This technical approval test certificate is issued in compliance with sections 20 and 22 of the Building Ordinance for the Federal State of North Rhine Westphalia – State Building Ordinance – (BauO NRW)13) in combination with Building Rules List A9), ser. number 2.11. According to section 21 a, paragraph 2, sentence 2 together with Section 21, paragraph 7 of the Model Building Ordinance (MBO)13) or the corresponding provisions in respective State Building Ordinances, a technical approval test certificate issued in one state is valid in all states of the Federal Republic of Germany.

6 Instruction on the right to appeal Objections against this technical approval test certificate can be filed within one month after its publication. All objections must be submitted in writing or in person to:

7 General information 7.1 The technical approval test certificate does not replace any licences, approvals and

certificates legally required in order to undertake the construction project. 7.2 This technical approval test certificate is issued without prejudice to the rights of

third parties, especially private industrial property rights. 7.3 The contractor must keep this technical approval test certificate ready for inspection at

the construction site. 7.4 This technical approval test certificate may be copied in full only. Publication in part is

subject to the approval of MPA NRW. Texts and drawings in advertising material must not contradict this technical approval test certificate. Translations of this technical approval test certificate must include the remark ‘Translation of the original German version not verified by the issuing authority’.
