Purpose: Wonderware Information Server is a Web Portal with hooks into many different pieces of Wonderware Software. It can be

used to see things such as InTouch or ArchestrA graphics, Factory Alarms, Query multiple datasources, or an ActiveFactory

Trend/Report. Once the Information Server is installed you are required to use the ‘Configurator’ to complete the process.

Inside the Configurator you will have to ‘Configure’ each of the pieces that make up the Information Server separately. This

Tech Tip is designed to ensure you have all the necessary prerequisites, and guide you to ensure a successful configuration

on a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit server.

Prerequisites: In order to have a successful configuration of the Wonderware Information Server you need to have a number of Role

Services for the Web Server (IIS) installed. To add these Role Services open the ‘Server Manager’ inside of ‘Administrative

Tools’. Select Roles, and click ‘Add Role Services’.

Configuration: There are four sections to configure inside of the Configurator:

• Information Server

• ActiveFactory Reporting

• ArchestrA Reports

• Sample Content

Multiviews are not supported on any 64-bit operating system. Multiviews can only be installed and configured on 32-bit

installations of supported operating systems.

Information Server

1- The Virtual Folder Name will be the website your clients will browse to. The default is Wonderware which gives a

website name of http://InfoServerName/Wonderware.

2- The database configuration section identifies the user which will authenticate against the SQL Server to create the

Suitevoyager (Info Server) database. You can use the ‘sa’ account for SQL Server, or a windows account that has

SysAdmin privileges. In SQL Server 2008 not all local admin accounts automatically get granted as sysadmins. They

must be added during the SQL Server installation, or from within the SQL Server Management Studio.

3- The Application account is used by the WIS components to log on and run as Windows Services. The account you

specify must have local administrative rights, and sufficient rights on the domain to retrieve a list of domain users.

Otherwise, domain users will not appear in the User Manager or Panel Manager sections of Information Server.

4- Click Configure

Upon Configuration you will see a green checkmark next to the Information Server component. Depending on the type of

Portal license you have installed. You may see a message other than ACQUIRED for the ‘Write Enable License’. This is a

special type of license required in order to be able to write back values down through your InTouch or ArchestrA graphics.

ActiveFactory Reporting

You must have Microsoft Excel installed on your Information Server in order to view published Excel reports. Supported

versions are: Excel 2003 SP3, 2007 SP2, or 2010 (32-bit only). Configuration can continue on without this, but any published

reports will not work correctly.

Before ActiveFactory Reporting is able to be configured, a default Data Source must be created. This will act as your default

Historian Data Source. Click the button ‘Define New Historian Data Source’.

If this is an upgrade, you do not need to create a new datasource. Select the existing Data Source that was previously

configured.

which the Sample Reports and Report Builder models will query from. The previously defined Historian Data Source will set

itself as the default. Click the button to ‘Define New Alarm Data Source’.
