My name is Sally Sorte.I started [pre]school in 1988 in Corvallis,

OR.I graduated from high school in 2004 in

Corvallis, OR.I first went to college at Whitman College

in 2004.When I finish my degree, I hope to

become some combination of writer, director, educator, and activist.

Educational Technology = The purposeful incorporation of technology through

instruction, authentic tasks, and student-interface with the educational material.

The technology is selected and implemented in order to specifically

prepare students for personal, academic, and professional success, and

meaningfully engage students through 4-dimensional, life-like learning mediums.

In Kindergarten, I remember listening to songs about all the letters… that was about it for us.

We went to the Language Lab for Spanish, learned Excel/PPT in the Computer Lab, programmed conic cartoons on our graphing calculators, and went to the library to use Microfiche… and, eventually, the internet.

Ideas for Nowadays: Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, BlogSpot, Ning SmartBoard / Promethean Global Collaboration (Skype, e-mail, etc.) Visual Storytelling (digital or video cameras)

From the Planetarium, to programming C++ in the math lab, to analyzing films in the RFS theatre, to laying out pages for the Whitman College newspaper– as I grew, so did the technology I interacted with.

Color, variety, cutting edge Alternative Literacy Teaching students where they’re at Interactive: New students find their voice through

technology.

For example: ICED, a videogame that educates the player about the immigration & deportation process.

Reduction of purchase power: computers cost more than pencils.

Technology is simply another manifestation of cultural capitol; not everyone is equally endowed.

Technology is always changing, it costs to keep up.
