Dear Parents
The Re-opening of the Yarning Circle
and the handing over of the $10,000
cheque by the ANZ was a great
afternoon celebration. Thanks to all
the Gumbaynggirr elders and mob, our
school staff throughout the V10
schools, students and community members that
made this such an outstanding event. The
Director of Education for the Mid North Coast,
Mr Glen Pleasance described the school as an
exemplary demonstration of a high performing
school with a high level of community
engagement.
The TAFE students were certainly the proudest
of all as they received a gift of a work shirt each
with ‘Gumbaynggirr Pathways of Learning’
printed on the back. Thanks to Toni Jones for
the lovely afternoon tea and April Miller for
helping make the day such a success. See
attached the photos and media release. More
images are published in an album of images on
the TAFE Macksville Campus Facebook page:

This week we have started the two swimming
programs in two locations which has been a
great success.
The highlights have been the excellent
behaviour of the students as they have
challenged themselves to be better than the
day before. The partnership that has been
formed with the local surf club is the beginning
of an ongoing relationship.
The great news is this program will be available
to the whole school next term as we will be one
of four schools in Australia to be piloting the
Surf Safety Program. Thanks to all involved in
both highly beneficial programs
It with great pleasure that I wish our Robotics
team, Bu Emma and Mr Johnson the best of
luck as they head to Sydney to compete in the
First Lego Challenge. They will be leaving on
Sunday and returning on Tuesday afternoon.
Pak Lawrie will be taking the senior class in Mr
Johnsons absence.
Thanks for your continued support.

Surf Safety Program
Our Surf Safety Program in partnership with
Macksville-Scotts Head Surf Lifesaving Club this
week has been such a positive success, as so
clearly written by the student letters of
appreciation to the surf club. This training and
recreation promotes active learning through direct
personal experience and offers excitement, fun
and adventure within a framework of safety. Challenging experience outdoors impacts powerfully upon a young person’s
intellectual, physical, spiritual, social and moral development. Building self-confidence and self-esteem is fundamental to any young
person’s development.
This week the students have become highly aware of the needs and contributions of others by the
kindness that has been shown by the number of local members from the surf club that have come down
each day to make sure this program has been such an outstanding success. Thanks to Cath O’Donnell
and Peter Ross and all the volunteers who have mentored, encouraged, coached, supported and above
all demonstrated to students the ability to sustain effective relationships, at work and in the family, are
vital in today’s society.
I have included the link of how to become a member as the club is such a great resource that the
students can access. The purposeful use of leisure time is increasingly seen as making an important contribution to a fulfilling
lifestyle. Our relationship with the environment is a key
issue facing tomorrow’s citizens they will need to possess
the adaptability to cope with a rapidly changing world of
work and the responsibility to be an effective member of
a community http://www.macksvillescottsheadslsc.com/
membership.html. Mrs Stuart.
Our Swimming Scheme this year at Macksville Pool
has been a great success with 100% improvement in
all students confidence, water safety awareness and
capacity to swim greater distances.
Agile Assassins are off to Sydney
Finally the amazing, dedicated robotics team has made it and
we will be all off to Sydney on a great adventure (in our very
nice blue shirts thanks to Jo). The competition will be tough
as we present our Environmental reducing rubbish idea, be
judged on our robotic skills, design and programming ability,
against the city schools. We will also have to talk about core
values and work together as a team to demonstrate these.
The first Lego League is a fantastic way to implement STEM
abilities, the students have so solve all problems themselves
which required a lot of thinking! Well done everyone, this will
be so much fun. 123 GO LEGO!!
