And as the applications for location-enabled data expand, the consumer experience will only be as good as the underlying foundation. So for the NAVTEQ Map that means tapping over 80,000 sources, but going beyond that when necessary to the quality of the experience and putting approximately 1,100 geographic analysts around the world in the field to collect the right data. It means having the most comprehensive blend of sources for our traffic data,

And it also means building the right business models and services for our customers to help them engage with their consumers in this new world, including the ability to target advertising to a person's particular location.

Our data powered the first luxury car navigation system launched in Europe in 1995, and with the quality and innovation which has been at the hallmark of the NAVTEQ map ever since, we now count top companies in the vehicle, portable, wireless and internet space as our customers.

History Founded in 1985 in Silicon Valley, California, NAVTEQ has a unique and eventful history rooted in technology, geography, hands-on research, and an infectious entrepreneurial spirit. From the beginning, we were focused on capturing the reality of the road network to enable dynamic turn-by-turn routing. NAVTEQ began by collecting detailed data for large metropolitan city areas.
