Cesar Chavez said, " Students must have initiative, they should not be mere imitators. They must learn to think and act for themselves--and be free." I believe teaching should empower and engage students. As a teacher one must constantly be learning along with the students. I must he a learner with the students. Being a learner allows me to take initiative into what I will be able to teach thus creating an environment that facilitates learning. It is imperative that when going into the classroom one teaches with an open mind. An open mind generates an acceptation for differences and uniquenesss in the classroom. The students will benefit from distinctive perspectives as they learn to listen and appreciate their fellow peer despite difference. A productive and innovative learning environment is a classroom that provides learning opportunities. Learning should be differentiated and tailored to meet the students needs. But learning must allow students to learn through auditory, visual, and kinesthetic methods. Learning through auditory, visual, and kinesthetic approaches permits implementation of real-life experiences in teaching/learning classroom. The uses of real-life experiences yield a greater student engagement and participation. Learning opportunities that engage the students can be translated into the amount of effort and the quality of work student produce. Student work should be rewarded and evaluated based on their efforts but also on the quality. By considering both, students learn that they should always give their best. In a classroom imitation may seem easier than taking initiative. However, I believe that through valuing each student's individuality and being able to provide accommodations starts to guide students away from imitation and leads them initiative. As a teacher, valuing and respecting our students teaches them to value and respect themselves. Self-worth and self-respect reflects into respect for others, creating a safe and united classroom. I will work hard to create a safe learning environment that fosters the love for learning. My passion for seeing students excel guides the way I want to create my classroom and how I want to teach.
