HtSTORY Of EUROCUO

History plays an important ,role in building .and maintaining democracy a.nd strengthening m.utua understanding between differenticountries and people in Europe. At the same time history edu tion i s frequ, ently used as a vehtcle for pfilitical ,prop.aganda, hatred and aggression. After the c d

Supported by the Council of Europe, delegates fiom 14 countries, representing 18 Histor) Teachers Associations, decided in 1992 te establish EUROCLIO, the ~ u r o ~ e a n organisation foi history education. This prganisaeiqn supports thelearning and teachinl; of history by sharing ant

D,u{i,ng the foJl,owi,vg yew EUROCLIO grew rapidly and in 2001 EUROCLIO represents 66 memlaer organisations fr0.m 41 (mostly.) Eufo'pa-ri coun'rries.

EUKOCLIO is r6coghised as 'memtier of the Liaisdti Cbmmittee of the Noh-GoYefnmelita Organisations enjbying conswliative statiis with the Council of Europe.

The most important aim of EUROCLIO is to strengthen the cooperation between history educa tor6 .io Europe and:en.co.urage neWork.i,ng and sharing.inform,atipn. EUROCLIO supports peace stabilkty and democracy by promoting democratic val~es a.nd p.m?esses in history and .responsi Me history education. It also aims to promote the international dimension and awareness in tht
