Professional Specialization Certificate (PSC) in TEFL•Sixty hours of classroom instruction. Plus workshops and seminars (3 weeks)

•Instruction is delivered online when the international teachers return to their own countries, schools and classrooms. The online component of the PSC in TEFL is delivered over approximately 9 weeks

•Successful completion ensures participants of a Professional Specialization Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and alumni status at the University of Victoria.

Benefits of the PSC in TEFL Program

• Improved fluency in written and spoken English.

• Advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills in teaching, and enhance their fluency for the purpose of teaching English.

English Language Requirements: Students who are not a native English speaker must meet the following language proficiency requirements (and complete an entrance interview):TOEFL(iBT) score: 94 TOEIC score: 850IELTS score 7.0

This Advanced 120-hour TEFL course is intended for people with little or no teaching experience. Students are expected to be able to speak English fluently to enroll in this course. By the end of the course students will acquire all the teaching knowledge, skills, strategies, and cultural awareness to be able to teach in a foreign country, and be familiar with the following:

• methodology for teaching the four skills (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking)• second language acquisition theory• classroom organization, teaching, and assessment techniques• understanding cultural diversity• teaching strategies to maximize learning in the classroom• empowering learners to manage their own learning process.

Programs can be developed in consultation with sponsoring institutions to meet the needs of their students or professionals. In the past, customized programs have been developed for:-Early Childhood Educators-Elementary School Teachers-Middle School Teachers-High School Teachers-School Principals-Adult and Post-Secondary Instructors

Program Options• 1-12 weeks in duration• 15-30 hours per week of classes and workshops• Blended programs with English improvement classes and teacher-training classes• English as a Medium of Instruction classes / workshops • Local School Visits / Classroom Observations• Optional Socio-Cultural Activities (City Tours, Whale Watching, Kayaking, etc)• Optional online content delivery
