The Virginia churches are
blessed that ICOM (International
Conference on Missions) is
coming to Richmond on October
29-November 1.
ICOM will bring hundreds of
missionaries from around the
world to Virginia, as well as
thousands more individuals from
ministry organizations, churches,
youth groups, and more. It will
be an incredible opportunity to
worship together, engage your
congregation in worldwide
missions, as well as empower
them to serve actively in your
own community.
This conference is for all of us!
We all can say we are
missionaries because Christ has
called us to fulfill the mission he
gave us! This is a huge
opportunity for us to minister to
missionaries from around the
world and show our support for
global church growth.
Attached is a message from the
President of ICOM 2015
explaining the theme for this
year.
Our theme is “The
Away Team”. Sessions and
workshops will include valuable
insights on how to carry out the
Christian mission in a post-
Christian, post-modern
world – that is, we need to learn
how to play as the visiting team
in our own cities and countries.
The Away Team is a sports
metaphor that illustrates how
times have changed. There was
a time when the church had
home field advantage in the
USA, Canada, and other parts
of the world. Christians were
the majority, influenced culture
and enjoyed political
privilege. In other words, we
had the equivalent of home field
advantage. But times have
changed. To be victorious
today we need to adopt
strategies that reflect our
position as visitors to our own
culture. ICOM 2015 will be
practical and uplifting. I hope
to see you in the great city of
Richmond, October 29-
November 1.

“THERE ONCE WAS A
CHURCH…”
We are currently in the middle
of series called, “There Once
was a Church.” We are looking
at the first century church and
embracing the values and
principles that the first church
embraced. Ethos is a word that
means “guiding principles” and
there are five for us at New
Hope that we see in the first
church: Purpose, People,
Prayer, Passion, and
Possibility.
We are going to wrap up our
series together with a very
special day on October 25th. On
that Sunday, we are going to
have ONE SERVICE together
at Cave Spring High School
that will begin at 10:00am.
Some might be wondering if
we are going to have a big
“reveal” on that Sunday. The
reason why we are worshipping
together is so that we can
worship together. Having
three worship services on
Sunday mornings is a good
thing. It allows us to
accommodate individuals and
families with varying
schedules. However, it leaves
us a little disconnected.
Having one service at Cave
Spring allows us to be
together…as one body. The
last time we had one service
together was in December of
2013 as we celebrated our 60th
anniversary. We hope you will
make every effort to be there.
October 25th, 10:00am at Cave
Spring High School.

KID CITY
We have seen a growing
number of excited kids joining
Kid City lately! It has been an
awesome experience to see
them smiling and having fun
together while learning about
Christ on Sundays and
Wednesdays. Please be
praying for them and the many
volunteers who dedicate their
time to help these kids know
the love of Jesus and His plan
for them.
PHASE
“For we are God’s
workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus to do good works,
which God prepared in
advance for us to do.”
~Ephesians 2:10
If there was one verse to
define the purpose and goals
of PHASE, this is it. All that
we discuss, learn, play, and
plan will be anchored to this
verse. The kids will know that
they are loved and created by
their Father in order to serve
Him. They will know that they
are part of a community of
people who are also loved and
created by the Father to do good
things for Him. They will know
how God has prepared them
beforehand in their own unique
ways and be valued for the gifts
He gave them.
So how will this play out now
that PHASE is officially
launched? It is evident in the
lessons they learn and the
application to their real lives. It
is evident in the games,
activities and discussions that
promote community with each
other. It will also mean
opportunities to serve. They
have already started leading
worship for the younger kids and
will continue to get plugged into
different areas of service this
fall. They also have many
opportunities to serve in the
local and global community.
This month the kids will be
constructing Blessings in a Box
for our partnering mission in the
Dominican Republic and helping
with the Pack-A-Sack ministry in
order to feed children in a local
school.
Please join me and the other
parents and leaders in keeping
PHASE kids and the ministry
bathed in prayer. God is going to
work in great ways through this
ministry!

TCTC BOUND
January, wow that seems so far
away, right? Well unfortunately
it will be here well before we
know it. For us in the student
ministry January means one
thing and one thing only TCTC.
The great thing about TCTC is
that we get to take our High
School students away from their
“world” for an entire weekend.
We get to smash them into a
cabin and eat, play games, talk,
worship, pray, and connect
students to God and each other.
This year we are doing a
Pack-The-Cabin campaign. Our
goal is to take 35 high school
students to TCTC. Because of
this, we need to make TCTC as
affordable to students as
possible. With this in mind, we
are doing a couple of
fundraisers.
church and let’s get you and a
student hooked up.
Thanks in advance for believing
in our students and what God is
doing in and through them.
