“I have been a lead internal verifier for a number of years for a range of qualifications and to be given the opportunity to undertake the Internal Verifiers’ Qualification was just the icing on the cake. I was able to develop further my knowledge and understanding of being an internal verifier. The support given during the course was second to none but also flexible due to being a fulltime SPL of several courses which I really appreciated.”

‘I thoroughly enjoyed studying the PGCE in Lifelong Learning. As a new teacher in FE it was great to be part of a diverse group of people with various subject specialisms. It was a very a supportive environment with a great bunch of people.

I particularly enjoyed sharing and reflecting on classroom experiences and identifying areas where my teaching practice could be developed.

Additionally I enjoyed developing a greater depth of knowledge with respect to teaching and learning theory and literature and applying this to my teaching practice’.

Andrew MessengerCompleted level 5 Diploma in Education and Trainingat Kirklees College

Won COLS Award 2019 and got outstanding inhis first year of teaching. My journey into teaching began when I hung up my wings as cabin crew in 2016. Going back into education after 15 years was scary, as my experience, knowledge and passion I have was and still is in aviation and travel.

My experience with Kirklees College was so rewarding, they helped me take my first step into the teaching profession. The course was both challenging and exciting and my tutors were inspirational and very supportive.

Late last year, I won a COLS award from my time at Kirklees College, I was gobsmacked but over the moon. I’d had a very challenging day at work and coming home to the letter, made my day. It highlighted how rewarding teaching is. I was also nominated at work for Newcomer of the year which felt amazing. I am so proud of that.

The successes of my students and own achievements in my first academic year proved that I had made the right career change. I would most certainly recommend studying with Kirklees College.
