A huge thank you must be extended to all those who were involved in these exciting projects and we look forward to growing the relationships we have established with you. The time to plan for 2012 is upon us. This message therefore serves as a call for applications for various positions that are vacant within The Collective Genius. The Collective Genius has the following vacancies for 2012:

1. National Project Manager x 2

This position requires an individual with significant experience and or skills in the co-ordination and management of various stakeholders within an organisation. This individual will work quite closely with the Project Directors (Nwabisa Mayema and Abdullah Verachia) and the Finance Director (Mahfooza Hussain). Core tasks will revolve around interfacing between Provincial Co-ordinators and the Directors. Core tasks will include:

Collating information for monthly project status reports

Dissemination of clear and accurate information to Provincial Co-ordinators

Ensuring all engagement with the government officials is on track, as per project deliverables

It would be preferable for these individuals to be based in Johannesburg but excellent candidates from other parts of the country will not be overlooked.

The National Project Managers should be highly organised individuals with exceptional communication skills. Given the dynamic nature of the projects and the various stakeholders; National Project Managers should also be flexible and be able to adapt to any situation. An attractive remuneration package will be structured for this position.

2. Provincial Co-ordinator x 18

Each province requires two individuals who shall oversee the overall running of school-based activities in his or her allocated province. A significant amount of engagement the provincial Departments of Basic Education is required and thus a clear-minded, patient and highly organised individual is well suited to this position. Core tasks will include:

Compiling monthly reports for use by the National Project Managers

Organising, training and managing a group of workshop facilitators, adjudicators and timekeepers…

Briefing workshop facilitators, adjudicators and contest directors

Confirming venues for workshops

Ensuring that all workshop material is on hand through communication with National Project Manager

Facilitation of a minimum of one workshop

Chairing of one Provincial Competition

Assist in the sourcing of external adjudicators in their province

Whilst it is an added advantage that the Provincial Co-ordinator is based in the province, this is not always possible and applicants will be considered on merit as opposed to geographic location. The Collective Genius will use its discretion to allocate provinces to Provincial Co-ordinators and no correspondence will be entered to on this matter.

3. Event Co-ordinator x 3

During the Provincial Contest phase of any schools-based programme, a team of three Event Co-ordinators is required to essentially be “the face” of each Provincial Contest. Each Event Co-ordinator will be required to be at a Provincial Contest and perform at least the following tasks:

Assist with sourcing of competition venues – working closely with the Provincial Co-ordinators and National Project Managers.

Ensure they are in possession of the Provincial Contest kit at least 72 hours in advance of the event

Be part of final engagement with Provincial Contest venue and caterer

Set up the Provincial Contest venue at least 12 hours prior to the Provincial Contest

Be at Provincial Contest venue to oversee the smooth running of all logistical arrangements for the day: contestant registration, catering-set up, ushering etc

Serve as a tally counter at the Provincial Contest

On average, one Event Co-ordinator shall travel to three Provincial Contests out of nine. The clustering is as follows:

Cape Cluster: Northern Cape, Western Cape, Eastern Cape

Northern Cluster: KZN, Mpumalanga, Free State

Inland Cluster: Gauteng, North West, Limpopo

These are obviously subject to change.

An Event Co-ordinator should be well spoken and should be an independent thinker, who can offer creative solutions to unforeseen challenges presented to them. Each Event Co-ordinator will liaise directly with the National Project Managers.

4. Public Relations Officer x 1

A dynamic Facebook page that is linked to a Twitter account is required. An individual with constant or significant amount of connectivity to the Internet and e-mail is best suited to the core tasks of this position. This well-spoken and creative individual will be tasked with the following:

Following a Public Relations Brief set out by The Collective Genius

Ensuring that all public relations elements are submitted timeously to you by Provincial Co-ordinators after workshops and Provincial Contests

Updating the Facebook page and Twitter account with photographs, whilst ensuring that these platforms remain tasteful so as to reflect positively on The Collective Genius and Project Sponsors

Collating all photographs for The Collective Genius’ archives and for reporting purposes.

Compilation of a Social Media Report after each project phase and an annual Social Media Report. This should yield four eye catching and informative reports.

Compilation and distribution of the As We Were Saying newsletter that must be ready at the end of each project phase.

Engaging with various media from time to time

The Public Relations Officer will work with the Project Directors.
