DV Interface Using the DV interface with a PC the following procedure must be followed 1. Power on the TBS/CVR, and ensure the

standard is correct 2. Ensure that the DV application software is

shut. 3. Connect the DV lead to the PC. 4. Load up DV application software. It is then

possible to capture and play back via the TBS/CVR in 525 or 625.

5. Note that the standard cannot be changed

without disconnecting the lead and re-loading the DV application software.

Using the DV Interface with other DV devices Ensure the device to be connected to the TBS/CVR is powered before connecting to the TBS/CVR. In some cases this is not necessary. If the unit is powered up with the lead connected and it doesn't work, disconnect the lead and reconnect it. Connecting two TBS/CVR devices together When using DV it is essential that both units are powered before connecting the lead. If this isn’t done it is possible that the DV interface will lock out. To restore operation, power off both units, remove the lead, power on and reconnect.

The offset between the external reference and the output can be adjusted over a range of approximately +/- 3 lines using the Gen Coarse and Gen Fine controls Input Lock Output video, if the same line standard, is locked to the selected input video source. When converting between line standards this mode is not available. Float In this stabilized or ‘floating mode’ the output will always follow shortly after the input, so preventing lip-sync errors and frame drop / repeat. When converting between line standards this mode is not available. Freerun Output video is locked to an internal reference clock.

Decoder AGC: The automatic gain control (AGC) function examines the input sync level and adjusts the luminance and chrominance gain to compensate for overall signal level attenuation. Use this control when the input video signal levels are low and automatic correction is desired. Press the lower soft button to Enable and Disable the Decoder AGC function. Decoder ACC: The automatic color gain control (ACC) function examines the input burst amplitude and adjusts chrominance gain to compensate for chroma level attenuation. Use this control when chroma levels are low compared to luminance. This may occur when using YC installations or composite from RF links. Press the lower soft button to Enable and Disable the Decoder ACC function. Decoder CTI: The chroma transient improvement (CTI) control examines the input video data. It detects transitions of chroma and enhances chroma edges in order to artificially restore lost color bandwidth. Use this function when the input video has chroma bandwidth limitations. Press the lower soft button to Enable and Disable the Decoder CTI function. Decoder NR: The digital noise reduction is based on the assumption that high frequency signals with low amplitude are probably noise and their removal improves picture quality. Improvements can be seen on most material so this function is on by default. Press the lower soft button to Enable and Disable the Decoder NR function.

Comb Filter The comb filter employs a 5-line adaptive 2D-comb filter that separates chrominance and luminance when decoding a composite video signal. It adapts to the video standard and signal quality automatically. This control improves the decoder performance and should only be switched off if the operator needs to see the source through only a low pass filter. Press the lower soft button to Enable and Disable the Decoder NR function. Input Std Rotate the knob to show the Auto, PAL, NTSC, SECAM, PALM, PALN or N443 input video option. Choose the forced composite standard or automatic detection by pressing select. In Std NTSC Rotate the knob to show the NTSC or NTSC-J input video options then press select. NTSC-J is similar to NTSC but without a pedestal Encoder Rotate the knob to show the Full Bandwidth, Luma Low Pass or Luma Notch encoder options then press select. DV AVC Rotate the knob to desired AVC command [stop, play, record, forward, rewind], then press select. Default Out Rotate the knob to show the Pattern, Black or Input default output video options then press select. Display Rotate the knob to adjust the display brightness between 25% and 100%. In Level (Analog Audio I/O versions only) This sets the input level for 0 dB FS. The range of control is from +24 to +12 dBu in steps of 0.5 dB. Default is to +18 dBu. Out Level (Analog Audio I/O versions only) This sets the output level from 0 dB FS. The range of control is from +24 to +12 dBu in steps of 0.5 dB. Default is to +18 dBu.

Genlock This screen allows the genlock functions to be setup. Mode This allows the mode of genlocking to be selected. Ref Lock Output video is locked to an external reference. The offset between the external reference and the output can be adjusted over a range of approximately +/- 3 lines using the Phase controls Input Lock Output video, if the same line standard, is locked to the selected input video source. When converting between line standards this mode is not available. Float In this stabilized or ‘floating mode’ the output will always follow shortly after the input, so preventing lip-sync errors and frame drop / repeat. When converting between line standards this mode is not available. Free Run Output video is locked to an internal reference clock. Phase 525 and Phase 625 These control allows the offset between the external reference and the output to be adjusted over a range of approximately ±1 line of the operating standard.

More

This screen allows various functions to be setup.

Decoder Settings for the decoder may be selected with function. AGC The automatic gain control (AGC) function examines the input sync level and adjusts the luminance and chrominance gain to compensate for overall signal level attenuation. Check this control when the input video signal levels are low and automatic correction is desired. ACC The automatic color gain control (ACC) function examines the input burst amplitude and adjusts chrominance gain to compensate for chroma level attenuation. Check this control when chroma levels are low compared to luminance. This may occur when using YC installations or composite from RF links. CTI The chroma transient improvement (CTI) control examines the input video data. It detects transitions of chroma and enhances chroma edges in order to artificially restore lost color bandwidth. Use this function when the input video has chroma bandwidth limitations. Decoder NR: The digital noise reduction is based on the assumption that high frequency signals with low amplitude are probably noise and their removal improves picture quality. Improvements can be seen on most material so this function is on by default.

Encoder This allows the type filtering for the luminance signal of the encoder to be selected. Default Output When the input signal is lost this allows a signal to be chosen to become the output signal.

* Floating Mode - Without a reference the output will either free-run or lock to a stabilized input sync if operating in synchronize mode. In this stabilized or ‘floating mode’ the output will always follow shortly after the input, so preventing lip-sync errors and frame drop / repeat. The inputs are highly tolerant to unstable and noisy sources, while the synchronizer always creates correctly aligned images, even during sync disturbances and asynchronous input switches.
