VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Central Florida Dreamplex is seeking current freshman, sophomore, and junior level high school students for its StarGazers volunteer program. The Dreamplex is a fitness and recreation center for children and adults with physical and/or intellectual disabilities. Only 15-20 volunteers will be chosen to be StarGazers, and the program will span one year (January-December, 2018) and result in at least 100 community service hours for each participant. First aid, CPR, and other training will be provided at no cost. The ideal candidate will be an individual who loves to work with children and is interested in therapeutic services, special education, or other related fields as a career choice. Those chosen to be StarGazers will assist with Dreamplex sports and recreational programs, and will have the opportunity to shadow physical, speech, and occupational therapists. Completed applications may be submitted by email to [email protected] or dropped off at the Dreamplex, located in the Clermont Hillside Terrace complex (same building as Graffiti Junktion) Applications are due by November 6th.

Word of the Day

extolPraiseworthy Word of the Day:This 15th-century verb has become wonderfully forgiving in modern times because most dictionaries admit two spellings: the original one, which you see here, and the more English-friendly extoll (owing to toll and perhaps to the completely unrelated atoll). While you can extol (that is, praise) just about anything or anyone, the things most likely to be extolled in these modern times are "virtues" and "benefits."
