The highestperformance Low-E glass is usedto maintain a steady temperaturereducing the amount of mechanicalheating and cooling / energy used.The yellow travellator takes visitors on a journeyfrom a main light gallery space, through the atrium,and arrives them immediately into the darkness ofa main digital gallery. Effortlessly contrasting thevisitors experience; keeping them awake, alert andexcited. The public spaces and functions on the leftand back of house operations, workshops, and artiststudios on the right. Artists can be seen working iftheir internal blinds are open. On certain studioopen days the entire gallery expands in size.Walking up the main public circulationramp; parallel and adjacent to the externallysurrounding ephemeral skin. Taking visitorson a journey; wrapping them around theextents of the building. For this ramp; it drawsvisitors through a main learning space anddirectly into the gallery. The circulation ofthe building is only clear one floor at a timeto enhance the experience and discovery ofthe building.Tate Bristol has two levels, on the Eastern side,dedicated to Learning. These Learning Spaceshave an abundance of public computers,which have installed the latest graphic andvideo software. Instead of having "hot desks"to rent office space in an isolated room, herewe have communal spaces which are open,public and for all.Throughout the building experience there willbe numerous informal installations. In almostseemingly random places, installations, sculptures,projections and performances will take place.The buildings flexibility due to its openness andorganisation of the permanant functions allowsfor this.After travelling through the building; taken on ajourney through its galleries, the visitors finally arriveon the roof. On the roof exists the sculpture garden,where numerous installations and large works live.The roof is South facing and views of the harbour andthe new city park are possible.The Cave is a large circular space situated below the upper-groundlevel. This is a flexible industrial space which is used for digital artinstallations and non-commercial performances. A public spacealmost independent and hidden from the rest of the gallery.Tate Bristols main digital art space is on a colossal scale. This spacehouses a selection of Tate Bristols permanent digital collection. Thisparticular room has a special emphasis on the artist Ryoji Ikeda. RyojiIkedas work quivers somewhere between electronic music, digitalart, installation and performance. He uses raw materials both visualand sonic: using giant screens and huge speaker systems, Ikedagives these hidden elements something approaching the scale andmonumentality of industrial manufacturing processes.This balcony space acts as platform to view themain, double height, digital space below from adifferent perspective. Along this balcony variousother digital installations exist. The soundelements overlap inherent in most digital artpieces, unlike still works, functions more as anattractive and moody underscore. The total effectis often surprisingly emotional.The main atrium connects the Harbour toCumberland Road. It is seen as a public street(and is surfaced in this way). In this space largescale installations and sculptures exist. From herethe visitor has an immediate understanding ofthe building. The different coloured floors helporientate the visitor to understand which galleryand public function exist on which floor.The site of Tate Bristol on Spike Island will create a flow of visitorsand provide an open anchor, an interior public space and ameeting place for pedestrians and they will become the citys newicon, whilst addressing deficiencies in accessibility, adaptabilityand lack of space for creative enterprise. Tate Bristol will becomea creative and cultural centre for the city. Tate Bristol will be thesocial and creative heart of the city, connecting people of all ages,cultures and backgrounds.The entrance way from Cumberlandroad, which leads through to thepublic ramp / main atrium. It issurfaced in a hardwearing way(concrete). The public spaces and functions on the leftand back of house operations, workshops, and artiststudios on the right. Artists can be seen working iftheir internal blinds are open. On certain studioopen days the entire gallery expands in size.Walking up the main public circulationramp; parallel and adjacent to the externallysurrounding ephemeral skin. Taking visitorson a journey; wrapping them around theextents of the building. For this ramp; it drawsvisitors through a main learning space anddirectly into the gallery. The circulation ofthe building is only clear one floor at a timeto enhance the experience and discovery ofthe building.Tate Bristol has two levels, on the Eastern side,dedicated to Learning. These Learning Spaceshave an abundance of public computers,which have installed the latest graphic andvideo software. Instead of having "hot desks"to rent office space in an isolated room, herewe have communal spaces which are open,public and for all.Throughout the building experience there willbe numerous informal installations. In almostseemingly random places, installations, sculptures,projections and performances will take place.The buildings flexibility due to its openness andorganisation of the permanant functions allowsfor this.After travelling through the building; taken on ajourney through its galleries, the visitors finally arriveon the roof. On the roof exists the sculpture garden,where numerous installations and large works live.The roof is South facing and views of the harbour andthe new city park are possible.The Cave is a large circular space situated below the upper-groundlevel. This is a flexible industrial space which is used for digital artinstallations and non-commercial performances. A public spacealmost independent and hidden from the rest of the gallery.Tate Bristols main digital art space is on a colossal scale. This spacehouses a selection of Tate Bristols permanent digital collection. Thisparticular room has a special emphasis on the artist Ryoji Ikeda. RyojiIkedas work quivers somewhere between electronic music, digitalart, installation and performance. He uses raw materials both visualand sonic: using giant screens and huge speaker systems, Ikedagives these hidden elements something approaching the scale andmonumentality of industrial manufacturing processes.This balcony space acts as platform to view themain, double height, digital space below from adifferent perspective. Along this balcony variousother digital installations exist. The soundelements overlap inherent in most digital artpieces, unlike still works, functions more as anattractive and moody underscore. The total effectis often surprisingly emotional.The main atrium connects the Harbour toCumberland Road. It is seen as a public street(and is surfaced in this way). In this space largescale installations and sculptures exist. From herethe visitor has an immediate understanding ofthe building. The different coloured floors help orientate the visitor to understand which gallery and public function existon which floor.Tate Bristol has two levels, on the Eastern side, dedicated to Learning. These Learning Spaces have an abundance ofpublic computers, which have installed the latest graphic and video software. Instead of having "hot desks" to rentoffice space in an isolated room, here we have communal spaces which are open, public and for all.Throughout the building experience there will be numerous informal installations. In almost seemingly random places, installations,sculptures, projections and performances will take place. This is a flexible industrial space which is used for digitalart installations and non-commercial performances. A public space almost independent and hidden from the rest of the gallery.Tate Bristols main digital art space is on a colossal scale. This space houses a selection of Tate Bristols permanent digitalcollection. This particular room has a special emphasis on the artist Ryoji Ikeda. Ryoji Ikedas work quivers somewherebetween electronic music, digital art, installation and performance. He uses raw materials both visual and sonic: usinggiant screens and huge speaker systems, Ikeda gives these hidden elements something approaching the scale andmonumentality of industrial manufacturing processes.Walking up the main public circulation ramp; parallel and adjacent to the externally surrounding ephemeral skin. Taking visitorson a journey; wrapping them around the extents of the building. For this ramp; it draws visitors through a main learning space anddirectly into the gallery. The circulation of the building is only clear one floor at a time to enhance the experience and discovery ofthe building.The site of Tate Bristol on Spike Island will create a flow of visitors and provide an open anchor, an interior publicspace and a meeting place for pedestrians and they will become the citys new icon, whilst addressing deficienciesin accessibility, adaptability and lack of space for creative enterprise. Tate Bristol will become a creative and culturalcentre for the city.
