February 2015 43 Tata Steel has produced a unique industry- leading steel tube at its UK sites including Hartlepool. Tata Steel, which is Europe's second largest steel producer has worked with customers to create the next-generation steel. The range - Celsius® 420 - will be used in demanding building projects and entered production late last year at the company's south Wales, Hartlepool and Tata Steel launches new steel tube Corby mills. It reduces weight, time and costs in construction of new buildings and mechanical applications and is currently undergoing customer trials. Henrik Adam, Tata Steel's Chief Commercial Ofcer in Europe, said, “We know our customers are constantly on the look-out for new materials with enhanced properties, which is why we focus so much on innovation to develop next- generation products.” Jonathan Clemens, Head of Marketing, Construction & Infrastructure for Tata Steel's European operations, said, “The product has excellent sustainability credentials that come from the steel's endless recyclability, as well as its full traceability as part of the responsible sourcing attributes associated with Tata Steel's BES 6001 accreditation.” The company has revealed plans to sell off its Long Products Europe division, in a move that would affect around 700 workers on Teesside. Swiss commodities rm Klesch Group is rst in line to buy the business, which includes the Lackenby Beam Mill and Special Proles operations at Skinningrove. Last year Tata Steel Europe announced a strategy of product and service improvement, amid struggling sales due to low European steel demand and competition from rising imports. The company's sales in differentiated products – higher-value, improved products that only Tata or very few other companies make – rose by a fth last year compared to the year before, bosses conrmed.
