If it is summer in Maine it means lobsters are boiling, boats are cruising the lakes and the Mid-Maine Chamber Golf Classic is upon us once again. This year’s event will be held on Tuesday, August 18th at the Waterville Country Club. The “Classic” has become a premier golf event that usually fills up early and this year is no exception. By the time you read this article the tournament field will most likely be full.
A special thank you goes out to this year’s tournament major sponsors: Maine State Credit Union and Central Maine Power. The Chamber would also like to thank all of our members and communities for the early and eager response to this year’s outreach for teams, sponsorship opportunities, donations, and tournament day volunteers. Despite the fact all our worlds have changed in some way due to the pandemic, the support has been overwhelming and is crucial to the success of our Chamber events. For that we are truly grateful.
To the point of the pandemic, and its effect on events, we hope that by our golf date in August we are able to conduct the tournament as it has been in the past. However, we will inform the participants of any material changes to the logistics as soon as we are notified.
We will have prizes for the top three gross and net team placements as well as a prize for our highest score. Each player will also have the opportunity to win a chance at a $1 Million prize in a shoot-out contest, or chances to win a truck, or large cash prize(s) if you can ace one of the four challenging par 3 holes. We will also have prizes for closest to the pin as well as longest and straightest drives.
Most importantly, this is a great day to get out of the office, enjoy the fresh air, make some new friends or business connections - and support your Chamber - and its members that make the Mid-Maine Chamber so successful. We are looking forward to seeing you all out there. Hit ‘em straight and have some fun!
—Rick

AC vs Heat Pump
Home Energy Answers is a BPI-certified energy efficiency improvement company in Albion and an Efficiency Maine registered vendor offering energy solutions for homes and small businesses throughout the state. Owned and operated by Keith McPherson, Home Energy Answers offers services such as energy audits, air sealing, weatherization, blown-in cellulose and spray foam insulation. It also offers installation and service of heat pumps, hybrid heat pump water heaters, solar systems, as well as many other services to make your home safer and more efficient.
This time of year, many folks decide that they are ready to move towards air conditioning their homes. In the past, it has been a challenge to compete with the traditional unit. But now, mini-split heat pumps have become more popular due to the fact that they don’t have to be taken in/out each year and the window is no longer subjected to warping or being damaged. The heat pump is serviced by a single 2 ½” hole that is sealed and covered, nullifying the energy lost around the A/C. Heat Pumps are significantly less noisy, use about 50% of the electricity,
filter the air and allergens in the room, and control the temperature more accurately. They are also the most efficient heat source in the winter, besides wood. Some homes are not laid out for proper coverage by a single wall-hung heat pump. For example, old farmhouses -- which often have multiple small rooms, hallways, or a second story over part of the home. In these cases a multi-head, or ducted heat pump option can become the perfect solution. Currently there are Efficiency Maine incentives available to reduce the cost of the heat pumps by up to $2k.
In addition, one of the more popular programs that Home Energy Answers offers is the audit/air-sealing combo, which offers an energy audit and 6 hours of air sealing. The cost for this combined service is typically $600 (within an hour of Albion), but after the Efficiency Maine incentive of $400, the customer only needs to pay the difference of $200. Once completed, Efficiency Maine also offers a 30% discount, up to $1k each
for insulating your attic, walls, and basement.
Does this sound like an investment you would like to make in your home? Home Energy Answers offers free in-home estimates. Call the office at (207) 200-1880; check out the website at homeenergyanswers.net, or the Facebook page, where you can enter to win the free installation of a heat pump. There are also brochures and business cards at the Mid-Maine Chamber office. Look for the Chamber Chatter video on the Chamber’s Facebook page to learn more.
