Task forces

• Agree core competences/learning outcomes for medical education in Europe, using methodology of the Tuning project (University of Edinburgh)

• Develop a framework for international recognition of qualifications, in the context of medical education and links with other professions (University of Antwerp)

• Develop quality assurance standards for the process of medical education for application in Europe (WFME/AMSE).

• Enhance the transparency and public understanding of medical education - undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing - and its outcomes, within and outside Europe (AMEE)

• Explore and develop links between medical education and research (Semmelweis University).

The Task Force will (1):

• examine relationships between education and research in medicine.

• examine issues such as the importance of outcomes related to critical appraisal and use of evidence, whether basic research skills are a core competence for medical graduates.

The Task Force will (2):

• promote the growth of collaborative research and development projects, building on strengths and interests of partner institutions, which can be submitted for financial support and which might involve undergraduates, since an understanding of research is essential to the development of best clinical practice.

Timelines:• Year 1: Information gathering and analysis on research

modules in undergraduate programmes, to identify practice across the network partners.

• Year 2: Information gathering and analysis on research modules in postgraduate (specialty) programmes - with the collaboration of UEMS experts. Comparison of the national CME systems (in credit points where applicable).

• Year 3: Recommendations to the Annual Conference on the feasibility of establishing credit-bearing research programmes in medical undergraduate education.
