    CONTEXT:

    Subject: DGE 1212 (Technical English)

    Student: Part one diploma in Electric and Electronic

    Engineering students of TATIUC

    Nature of course and institution: This course is

    prescribed curriculum as all the first year students

    are compulsory to take it. It is mandatory for their

    preparation to other English courses in their latersemesters. This course needs 2 ongoing assessments,

    Nature of the project: this project will help the

    students in order to understand more what is

    technical process where they have to create aprocess and include it in a short movie. Moreover,

    they have to act in this movie; so while completing

    this project, they are actually practicing their

    language in speaking, writing (script) and bodylanguage (communication).

    Discussion

    satisfied with the result after considering their level

    of English. Majority of the students are not

    competent in English. Nevertheless, looking at what

    they have done and the effort they put in finishingthis project, I can proudly say that this project is a

    success.

    All the groups did their best in producing the moviealthough they did complaining the hardship they

    faced while doing it.

    In this activity, the students have to speak English in

    the movie. In the normal class, it is difficult to make

    them to speak English but eventually this activity

    rather forced them to speak and I think it was agood start for them.

    The only problem in this project is, the students

    tended to change the script at the last minute.Therefore, I can see many ungrammatical sentences

    done by them.

    Improvement:

    this project can be done again next semester and there

    are some improvements that have to make so that it will

    be a better success. Strictly ask the students to follow their script.

    NEED ANALYSIS

    a set of questionnaire (appendix) has been given to them.We decide to gather information about their interest. In thequestionnaire, most of the questions are open-endedquestions because we want them to answer it with their own

    words. There are 25 students from Terengganu Advance Technical

    Institute University College who answered this questionnaire.

    All 25 students said they like English. None of them say no to

    English but they did not mention why they like English or atwhat extent they love English. Based on their answer, all thestudents want to learn speaking in English. They tend to askthe teacher to teach them how to speak well in English daily.

    Most of the students also like to have only 20 or lessclassmate for English. Some of them gave reasons whythey want smaller number of students, like they needmore attention from the teacher.

    Majority of the students dont want to have the class intheir normal class. They prefer to be other places likecomputer lab, library or open air places.

    Activities that they like to do in the class are mostly todo games.

    11 of the students suggested watching movie in Englishclass.
