Task 4&5 Specific research into a style model for my magazine
QBy: Layal Temrawi
• Q magazine is a popular UK based music magazine. It was first published in October 1986, and was found by David Hepworth and Mark Ellen.
• It differentiated itself from other music press by having higher quality standards of art and printing at this time.
• It was originally known as Cue magazine ( referring back to the term cueing a record etc.) However, it may have been mistaken for a snooker magazine.
• On their 200th issue the name was shortened to a single letter title, due to the fact that it would be more prominent on newsstands.

Target audience
• Q magazine tends to be aimed at younger yet wealthier audience compared to any other music publication.
• 68% of Q readers are in the ABC1 category and usually have a high disposable income.
Target audience
As you can see here they have used a great deal of Photoshop to make this creative and unique advertisement. The image is peculiar yet sophisticated which indicates that it is aimed at an older range as well as a higher social class of audience. The use of fashion makes it feminine on the on the other hand elements such as ‘ the gun shot’ fingers makes it slightly more masculine. They start off by making the artist look sexual which would appeal to the male readers however the way she converts into a mannequin relates back to fashion.
Problems
The only problems I may have basing my magazine on Q is that the magazine is targeted at a younger and wealthier audience. However, since my magazine is based on individuals between the ages of 16-21 they may not have such a high disposable income to afford the great quality of images that are located in Q magazine.
Contents PagesI like the fact that there is a dominant image rather than lots of images scattered. However, since I am aiming my magazine at a young readership I may have to add images relating to the articles as it will help guide them straight to the articles they want to read about. I will be following the basic conventions such as having a heading and page numbers…
I will also plan to have a colour scheme that will help create a brand identity for my magazine.I will also separate my articles with sub categories whilst making sure the text is in a clear and readable font as in this specific contents page it seems a bit too small. My model will not be posed and dressed in such a provocative manor as I am aiming to attract a rather youthful audience.
VibeVibe is a R&B/ Hip-hop based music magazine created by the infamous producer Quincy Jones. It features various artists within the genre from Jay-Z to R. Kelly. After hitting a dead end in 2009 the magazine was then purchased by Inter Media Partners and has now evolved into a monthly publication. The magazine's target audience is primarily a young, urban individual with a zest for hip-hop. By providing an insight to more than one music genre, Vibe has become more successful than competing magazines such as The
Source who focus mainly on the rap industry or The
Rolling Stones who only revolve around the Rock & Roll culture.

Double page spread• I absolutely love the way this double page spread is laid out as it is fun and
quirky yet has a twist of sophistication. I hope to produce something similar for my article as I am sure it will attract a range of readers.
On the website you will be able to find further information on the magazine. They
also inform their readers on the latest gossip and news within the music industry.
