InternatIonal Baccalaureate DIploma The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma is widely recognized and considered to be an international passport to higher education. Based on the best practices of educational systems worldwide, this comprehensive two-year program encourages critical thinking, research skills, and service as part of the learning process. Participation in this challenging program is well regarded by university admissions offices, and success on IB exams is often rewarded with advanced credit and/or standing at universities in the USA. Entry into the IB Program is made in consultation between the School, student, and family, and is open to highly motivated students ages 16-18 with strong academic, time management, and study skills. TASIS England IB students regularly achieve a pass rate of 94-100%, and exceed the International Benchmark for average points scored by a minimum of 3 points. Successful candidates earn both the IB diploma and the TASIS England American high school diploma.

Advanced Placement (AP) courses are college-level classes that follow the curriculum set forth by the American College Board’s AP Program. Qualified students in the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades may enroll in these classes with recommendations from previous teachers in specific subject areas. Final exams are held in May and are externally graded by the College Board. Success on AP exams may entitle students to course credits, and/or placement out of required courses at many American universities. TASIS England AP students achieving a score of 3 or higher on their AP exams consistently exceed the U.S. national average by more than 25%.

The English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) program in the Upper School at TASIS England was designed to help students learn English quickly and to ensure that non-native English speakers make suitable progress in other academic subjects. Upper school students are placed in the ESL class appropriate to their level of proficiency. Following International Section courses in English, history, and science, these students learn English vocabulary along with subject-specific content. The goal of the program is for non-native English speakers to achieve the level of fluency necessary to join regular academic classes as soon as possible.
