TASA 2009, including the Code This course on the Tax Agents Services Act 2009, including the Code of Professional Conduct (TASA 2009) has been approved by the Tax Practitioners Board’s (TPB) and is accepted by the Board as meeting the requirements of a Board approved unit in the TASA 2009, including the Code.
The Tax Practitioners Board requires that all individuals demonstrate knowledge of the TASA 2009, including the Code and consider this learning as an essential part of the qualification requirements for registration as an agent. Additionally, the TPB consider this knowledge essential for Agents to be able to meet their statutory obligations in relation to the provision of tax agent, financial and BAS agent services.
This unit contributes to one (1) of the topics incorporated in FNSTPB401 Complete business activity and instalment activity statements and can be undertaken as a CPE activity for those needing to enhance their knowledge of the TASA through continuing professional education.
Those participating in this course will gain technical and theoretical knowledge to be able to interpret and comply with the provisions of the TASA 2009, including the Code.

The Objective of the Tax Agents Services Act 2009 (TASA)
Registration process and eligibility requirements including:
The fit and proper person requirement
Prescribed qualifications and experience requirements (for individuals), or the requirement to have a sufficient number of individuals who are registered to provide tax agent services to a competent standard and to carry out supervisory arrangements (for companies and partnerships)
Relevant transitional provisions.
The Code of professional conduct including the underlying content of the professional and ethical standards required of registered Tax and BAS agents that are contained in the Code (Section 30-10 of the TASA)
Administrative sanctions that may be imposed in the event of a breach of the code including:
Written cautions from the Board
Orders from the Board requiring specified action to be taken (including requiring a registered tax practitioner to complete a course of training or requiring a registered tax practitioner to practise under supervision)
Suspension of registration
Termination of registration.
Civil penalty provisions and contraventions applicable to the conduct of registered agents
Civil penalty provisions and contraventions that apply to the conduct of entities that are not registered tax agents
The TPB's power to apply to the Federal Court for injunctions
An Agents obligation to notify the TPB of any changes in circumstances

Becoming a BAS Agent The Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping is cited as meeting the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) current minimum educational requirements for registration as a BAS agent. Individuals should consult the TPB as additional eligibility criteria may apply. The core units of this course include the 2 units which form an approved course in basic GST/BAS taxation principles (GST/BAS course):
