Dear Parents and Carers,
Tarneit Rise Primary School Newsletter
Issue 11 26th July 2018
Safe parking around the school
We would like to remind all of our families to obey all parking signage, and remember as adults we
are role models for our children. We do not want to be giving them the wrong messages about safety,
or about the way we treat/speak to others. Please display kindness and consideration in all
interactions with others. We have also been concerned when we see parents/carers holding their
babies, rather than having them safely restrained in an appropriate car seat. Our children are so very
precious, and we must ensure their safety at all times. The staff car park is for staff only. Please do
not use the car park. Thank you.
Grandparents’ Day and Book Week
We have lots of things to look forward to this term including Grandparents’ Day on August 22nd.
Grandparents’ Day is a feature of our week long Book Week celebrations. On Grandparents’ Day we
are asking that children dress up as a character from a book. The day will start with an assembly and
parade of our costumes and then our grandparents will be invited into the classrooms for the next
hour. Children (and their grandparents) will be involved in special Book Week activities. We will have a
longer recess break on this day so grandparents can stay and eat with their grandchildren; we will
have a special toastie truck visiting and selling (pre-ordered) cheese toasties for children and their
grandparents. We are also having a Book Fair throughout this special Book Week. Children will be
visiting the book fair during their regular library classes leading up to Book Week and they will be able
to purchase books from the Book Fair before and after school between August 20 – 24. All
commission earned from the Book Fair sales will be spent on new books for our school library. Order
forms for cheese toasties and invitations to our grandparents will be coming out soon providing more
detail about this very special week.
2019 Enrolments
We have had a significant number of students enrol for 2019 and places are filling up fast. If you
have a child beginning school at Tarneit Rise Primary School next year, or know someone who does,
please ensure all enrolments are finalised by the end of August so we can accurately plan for 2019.
Thank you
Nadia and Sarah
Prep Community News
Welcome back to Term 3! We hope everyone had a relaxing break and that you are all raring to go for what promises
to be another exciting term!
Thank you to all of those who attended the Student Led Conferences last week. The students were very excited to
share their learning with their families. It was a great day and a wonderful celebration of student growth so far.
A letter was sent home at the beginning of this week stating the concepts that will be covered in the different
curriculum areas over the next five weeks. On this letter you will also find suggestions of what you can do at home to
support the learning.
We have a few upcoming dates for you to pencil into your diaries:
Pupil Free Day
We had a very productive day last Friday working on the school’s mission, vison, and values and the
Principles of Teaching and Learning. Staff looked at feedback that has been gathered from our
families, children and staff about the school values. We have finalised the school values and very close
to finalising the mission statement. We are still working on the vision statement of the school and
hope to have all of these completed soon, so we may share and celebrate as a whole school
community. We really thank all of our families that did provide input (at the beginning of the year)
about our values. Our final pupil free day for this year will be Monday August 13th. Staff will be
working on developing common assessment tasks and completing professional learning on inclusion
and disability.
Every Minute Counts
There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind
and can affect their educational and social outcomes. Each missed day is associated with
progressively lower achievement in numeracy and literacy. We all want the best for the students at
Tarneit Rise Primary School so please support your child to be at school every day ready for learning.
Please note family holidays will be recorded as ‘unapproved’. We understand that family time is precious,
and so is school. Please book family holidays during the term breaks so you child has the best possible
opportunities to increase their learning. We have included the term holiday dates in this newsletter
so you can pre-plan or book any family holidays during the holidays.
Report Process feedback
We value your feedback. If you have any feedback to provide to us in regards to the School Reports or
the Student-led Conferences, we would like to hear from you. Please feel free to email us with any
Positives or Suggestions for Improvement that you have in regards to these two processes.
- Week 3, Friday 3rd of August the Preps will be celebrating 100 days of school. We will be having a pizza lunch on the day so please be sure to return the yellow notes ASAP.
- Week 5, Monday 13th of August will be a Pupil Free Day as teachers will be participating Professional Learning.
- In Week 6, we will be celebrating Book Week. On the Wednesday we will be dressing up as our favourite book characters and inviting the grandparents in the community to come into classrooms for the morning session. Please keep your eyes out for more information regarding this.
Thank you once again for all of your support. Have a fantastic week.
The Prep Teachers.
1/2 Community News
What a fantastic and busy start to term 3 we have had so far!
Firstly, the 1/2 team are very excited to have Mrs. Willcocks and Mr. Marley joining us as well as some new students! We welcome them all and look forward to having them in our 1/2 team! Secondly, we would like to congratulate the 1/2s on leading their student conferences. It was lovely to see the students’ enthusiasm and pride in displaying their learning and they thoroughly enjoyed having the opportunity to show their loved ones around their classroom environment.
On Monday, we were delighted to have a Koorie Engagement Support Officer (KESO) come to speak to us about Indigenous Australian history and culture.
The students immersed themselves in new language and later produced some fantastic writing about their experience for their Language Experience lesson. These pieces will be put up on display so please keep an eye out!
In the next few weeks we look forward to beginning our units, on Design and Technology, poetry and multiplication and division.
Thanks for your support,
The 1/2 Team
100 Days of Prep Celebration – Friday 3rd August
To mark 100 days of school, Prep students will celebrate this milestone with a fun-filled day. They will
decorate a class cake and be offered a piece to eat. A notice will be sent home this week outlining the
ingredients and an option to ‘opt out’ should you prefer for your child not to participate. Please note that if
teachers do not receive ‘opt-out’ notification by Wednesday 1st August, it will be assumed students can
eat.
Book Week Festivities – 20th to 24th August
The theme for Book Week this year is ‘Find Your Treasure’ and we have a week of exciting events planned.
It is however now time to begin thinking about your child’s costume for the Book Week Parade on
Wednesday 22nd August at 9am in the gym. Costumes need to relate to a character from a book and where
possible, students are asked to bring along their book clearly named. Parents and Carers are invited to
attend the parade. After the parade, grandparents will be invited back to the classroom to share in a
learning experience with their grandchild/ren. Following this, students will participate in rotational reading
activities on the day.
Thursday 23rd August is Book Swap Day. Students are encouraged to donate a book they love, but are
ready to pass on. They will be supported in class to write a book recommendation for the book that will be
placed with it at the book swap. Students may begin bringing in their book donation/s and pass these onto
their class teacher.
During Book Week, the school will host a ‘Book Fair’ in the library. Students and their parents will be able
to purchase books for home before and after school with all profits going toward purchases for the school.
If you happen to be available to assist with running the store, please contact the office.
Premiers’ Reading Challenge Update
We are so proud of every student at Tarneit Rise PS for working diligently toward completing the Premiers’
Reading Challenge and wish to take this opportunity to acknowledge their efforts. Over half of our students
have successfully completed the Challenge thus far, with many others so close to the finish line. Our target
of 100% of student completion is within reach! Given its overwhelming interest from families, we have
decided to continue ‘Story-time’ in the library on Friday mornings and look forward to continuing to see
you at 8:30am.

Parent Volunteers Required
Mrs Parker in Prep B is seeking classroom support on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday mornings between 8:45am and 10am. Tasks will include working with students as well as administrative tasks. Please contact the office if you are available to assist on a somewhat regular basis e.g. every Tuesday morning.
Mrs Parker in Prep B is seeking a parent who is willing to come in weekly to complete tasks such as
sharpening pencils, laminating and tidying books. The timing is flexible here (minimum of ten
minutes). Please contact the office if you are available to assist.
On Thursday 16th August students will be participating in a Market Fresh incursion designed to teach students about the importance of eating fresh fruits and vegetables every day as part of a healthy balanced diet. For this incursion we need some parent helpers to work with the presenters to prepare the fruits and vegetables. The incursion will begin at 11:30am, however, we require parent helpers to arrive at 10:40am to begin the preparations. If you are interested in volunteering for this incursion please notify the office by Wednesday 8th August.
Performing Arts volunteers As the students begin their Performing Arts learning, we will start to plan for our end of year concert. I am looking for parents who may be able to assist with costumes, props and rehearsing with the students in term 4. If you are interested in helping, please leave your contact details on the contact sheet located at the office and I will be in touch closer to the time with more information. Thank you!
