GENERAL QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS

Page 2: Targeted audience results analysis

WHAT IS YOUR AGE?

Of all the people that answered our questionnaire, 81% of them were aged 16 to and 14% aged 18 to 24, so 95% of the survey takers fit into the horror film target audience. Of 16-24.

WHAT IS YOUR GENDER?

76% of the people that took our survey were female; whereas typically the horror demographic is mainly males so this may not be a 100% accurate representation of my target audience, although I did undertake another survey with a more specific target audience of media students

WHAT IS YOUR EMPLOYMENT STATUS?

19 out of the 21 people who took our survey were students which is our primary demographic so these results should tell us a lot about how people will receive our film.

WOULD YOU SEE A HORROR FILM SET IN THE 1970S ABOUT A WOMAN WHO IS BEING FOLLOWED BY A MASKED KILLER?

62% of the audience we surveyed would go and see our proposed film which bodes well for its reception.

WHICH TITLE DO YOU THINK IS BEST FOR A HORROR FILM ABOUT A MAN FOLLOWING AND ATTACKING A WOMAN?

15 out of 21 (or 71%) said that Obsession would be the best title for our film so I have decided to choose this out of the shortlist I made, although if there is a problem with this then Watched would be my next choice.

WOULD YOU GO AND SEE A HORROR FILM IN BLACK AND WHITE?

When asked whether they would see a horror film in black and white the audience were extremely split, with an almost equal balance between yes and no. This means that we could edit our film in black and white, although we should probably edit two versions and show each of them to a focus group to get a more definitive answer to which was preferred.

DO YOU THINK WE SHOULD SEE THE KILLERS FACE IN THE TRAILER?

86% of our audience said that we should not show the killers face in the trailer. I was debating whether to have the unmasked killer in the trailer so that we know who it is but the victim doesn’t. However in their explanation our audience said that it ruins the suspense and the killer should not be revealed until the very end of the film.

WHAT FEATURES ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU?

This table tells us a lot about our storyline and how the trailer should come across. If we look at the Rating Average (the lower the number the more important it was voted) we can see that the most important factor in our film needs to be an interesting plotline, so it is possible that I may want to add subplots and backstories, although these usually aren't featured very heavily in the trailer, particularly for this genre.

The least important factor was seeing the violence and gore which suggests that I may not need to go crazy with special effects, however it must also be noted that the people that took this survey were majority female who do tend to not like gore and horror as much.

Would you see a horror film set in the 1970s?

66% of them would go and see a horror film set in the 1970s, which is slightly higher than the general survey. This is what I expected as these are demographic B, media types, as well as E, students, so they are more likely to go see a horror film set in this period as they will appreciate the methods used to make it look like the 1970s.
