cultural and life skills.
Welcome to Oxford
Why study at Oxford? It is a city which has
inspired students for hundreds of years, a
city full of history, full of life.
The famous university…
Oxford is home to the world-famous
university, with its many individual colleges.
Most international students do not realise
that Oxford university is a collection of 38
separate colleges, each with its own
character. Additionally we have the libraries,
churches, theatres and other facilities
associated with the university.
In your free time…
Oxford has lovely parks to enjoy – there is so
much open space here, and it is lovely to
take time out from the city to relax in a quiet
place. Oxford is home to a range of museums,
including the world-famous Ashmolean museum and
the quirky Pitt Rivers museum. You can take a boat
out on the river, or a stroll next to the canal. Or
take a break in one of the many cafes or restaurants
where you can have a full meal, or just afternoon
tea. In short, you will never be bored here in Oxford.
Modern shopping…
There is so much history here, but Oxford is a
modern city too – shopping malls with modern
fashions, independent shops where you can buy
souvenirs, and of course, Oxford’s famous covered market.
Living in Oxford…
Oxford is a city and of course has everything you need, including swimming pools and gyms,
medical facilities and hospitals, and places of worship (mosques, churches, etc). There are also
international shops too – so if you are missing a particular food from home, you can probably
get it here. There are carnivals and festivals throughout the year to enjoy, and people from
many different nationalities live here in Oxford.
And at the weekend…
Oxford is in the centre of England – London,
Bath, Stratford (where Shakespeare lived) and
Stonehenge are all close by. The beautiful
Cotwolds, a beautiful rural area, is forty minutes
by road. We are just a short bus ride from
beautiful Blenheim Palace where you can enjoy
the gardens, take a tour of the house, or picnic
on the lawn while watching a game of cricket.

Studying at Target
Learning English at Target Language School is a rewarding experience to help you achieve your
learning aims. We know how important it is to have a tranquil study environment and we work hard to
make sure we provide just that.
Your progress
We work hard to ensure you are making
good progress. Before you begin your
course we assess your abilities and
discuss your learning aims with you. We
give you advice on which exams are
suitable for your level and personal goals.
Our Director of Studies will meet with you
individually on a regular basis to talk to
you about your progress.
The school
Our school is small and friendly. We have
just four classrooms but we make sure
everyone feels right at home here. There
is a kitchen where we always provide tea,
coffee and biscuits for our students free of
charge. There is a hall too, where you
can sit and chat with other students after
class. We have a book exchange where
you can try reading some literature in
English.
We want to make your experience here
‘more than just another school’ so you will
also find our unusual but traditionally
English decorations too – teapots, plants
and bunting all add to our individual
flavour.
Your teachers
All of our teachers are selected because
they are dedicated to our students. Our
teachers are passionate about teaching
English and helping our students to
achieve their potential. They are here to
help, and work hard to provide dynamic,
interesting, goal-oriented lessons to help
guide you to achieving your best.
Your lessons We work on a variety of English learning
areas in each lesson, and tailor our
classes efficiently to take account of the
needs of every student in our small
classes. Each week you will study
grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation,
listening, speaking, reading and writing,
as well as looking at aspects of culture
and life here in the UK.
Our classrooms
Our classrooms are comfortable and
bright. Some classrooms are furnished
with seminar chairs and others with tables
and chairs to allow for flexibility of layout.
Each room comfortable sits 8 students
and each classroom has natural light.
Our location
Our school is
conveniently
located in the
centre of
Oxford, one
minute’s walk
from the
main
shopping
areas and
tourist sights. We are around a minute’s
walk from most of the bus stops, and
around five minutes’ walk from the train
station and main bus station.

Our Courses
Students can start studying with us on any Monday. General English classes are in the mornings, and
extra skills or exam preparation classes are after lunch. Our teachers provide motivating and
interesting lessons to keep you enjoying your studies as well as working towards your personal
learning goals.
General English +
Each morning, you study in the general English class for three hours in a small group. You
learn and practise grammar and vocabulary, pronunciation, everyday English, and improve
reading, writing, listening and speaking.
+ Options
After the lunch break, you will study EITHER “Skills” or “Exam preparation”.
+ Skills You will work on your English language skills –
we focus on listening and speaking, but also help
you with your reading and writing too – to
maximise your ability to communicate in English.
The aim is to give you the confidence to speak to
others outside the classroom and help you
understand while you are here in Oxford.
+ Exam Preparation You study one hour each day on your
chosen exam - IELTS, First Certificate or
Advanced exams. These classes give you
all the skills you need to prepare for the
exam. We are recognised as an official
Cambridge exam preparation centre, and
we pride ourselves in providing thorough
exam preparation for our students. We
hold practice exam days every 8 weeks
where students sit all parts of the exam –
find out where you still need to improve.
Our teachers are experienced at exam
preparation and know the tips and
techniques which will help you to succeed.
Executive English Course
You study with a General English group during the morning, but after lunch you have one-to-
one time with your teacher. You work on the areas you need and can develop your knowledge
and skills to the maximum – an excellent way to make the very best progress possible.
Private Lessons
You can have private lessons (one student and one
teacher) during the week. For these lessons the teacher
draws up an individual learning programme. You can
choose how many private lessons you need or want –
the Director of Studies can advise you. These are very
intensive to help you work on specific areas or to help
you catch up on your learning.
Saturday Workshops
You can attend Saturday workshops while you are here
too – on subjects such as Accent Reduction,
Pronunciation, IELTS writing, Getting a Job, Business
