Target Audience Analysis

Front cover

This is a sports magazine called ‘Match Of The Day’. I think that this magazine is aimed at young boys who are interested in football. The main cover line of this magazine front cover is ‘World Cup Special’ which conveys to the reader this issue is mainly about the World Cup. This will appeal to the target audience of young boys as the World Cup is a big football tournament celebrated throughout the world. Young boys who are interested in football will see this cover line as it will grab their attention making them want to buy this magazine. Also the cover line is in big yellow font which stands out from the rest of the front cover, therefore appealing to the target audience.

This magazine front cover also includes lots of images of big football stars such as ‘Lionel Messi’ and ‘Wayne Rooney’. This will attract and appeal to the target audience of young boys interested in football, as these players are people who they may look up to, giving them more reason to buy this magazine.

There is a variety of different footballers from different countries linking into the fact that this issue is about the World Cup. Also as this magazine is a UK based magazine, it will attract people from all different ethnicities as the UK is very multi-cultural place. By doing this, the audience will be more likely to buy this magazine and read it.

Contents page

This contents page is from a magazine called ‘Kerrang!’ I know that this magazine is about rock and metal music, so therefore their target audience must be for people who like rock and metal music. The font of the words ‘Contents’, ‘Kerrang!’ and ‘This Week’ are all the same. The font looks as if it has rips in and parts missing or that it is cracked. This relates to stereotypical people who are interested in rock or metal music, for example someone who has ripped jeans. The font is very edgy just like stereotypical ‘fans of rock and metal music’ are.

The main image on the contents page is of one of the members from the band ‘Dragonforce’. The band’s music is from the metal genre and so ties in with this magazine. The band was formed in 1999, so they must be well established for people who like rock or metal music. By having this image here it will grab the target audience’s attention and they will be more likely to read it.

The main colour scheme of this contents page is black and white. These colours are what you would associate stereotypical ‘rock and metal’ music fans to be dressed in. Therefore it is appealing to its audience of metal and rock music fans as they are using colours for their magazine that are linked with the classic rock and metal ‘look’.

Article

This is an article from ‘Top Of The Pops’ magazine. I feel like this magazine’s target audience could be for teenage boys or girls but for this specific article, the target audience is teenage girls. The title of this article is a quote of what Justin Bieber (who the article is about) has said in the interview. The quote says ‘Girls give me a headache!’ which will appeal to the target audience of girls, as lots of teenage girls are fans of Justin Bieber, and as he is talking about girls it will appeal to them even more.

The main colour scheme of this magazine article is red and black. The title is in red and black, so it the article itself and also the clothes Justin Bieber is wearing are red and black. As he is talking about girls, the colour red could have been used to symbolise love and the fact that he is talking about girls giving him headaches could suggest why the colour black has been used too.

The position Justin Bieber is in, of sitting on a chair the wrong way, will be very appealing to the target audience of teenage girls as it looks as if he ii thrusting his hips forward. This also links in as to why the target audience is teenage girls, as if this was an article for young girls then maybe he wouldn’t be in a position like this.

His facial expression is of him looking straight on at the camera, which will be straight into the reader’s eyes when they read it. Justin Bieber may have done this because the target audience of teenage girls will now be looking right at him when they read this magazine.
