Assalamu alaikum wa Rahmatullah!
Mentioning about Hazrat Abu Ubaidah bin Jarah (ra), Hazrat Khalifatul Masih (aa) stated:
➢ He was among those ten companions who had been given glad tidings of paradise in this life. These
companions are generally known as Ashra Mubashrah. Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (ra) accepted Islam as a
result of Hazrat Abu Bakr’s (ra) tabligh. He was the ninth person to accept the religion of Islam.
➢ Once, the Holy Prophet (sa) said that every nation has an Amin (trustee) and the Amin of his nation was
Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (ra). When the people of Najran requested that a person should be sent to them to
teach them about Islamic teachings, the Holy Prophet (sa) said about Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (ra) that I will
send an honest person towards you for this purpose who will rightly fulfill this responsibility.

➢ Once, Hazrat Aisha was asked that if the Holy Prophet (sa) had appointed a leader after his demise, who
would he have appointed? Hazrat Aisha (ra) named the following three persons in this order: Hazrat Abu
Bakr, Hazrat Umar, Hazrat Abu Ubaidah. Similarly, in another narration, she named these three people in
the same order when she was asked that who were the closest people to the Holy Prophet (sa).
➢ Before his demise, Hazrat Umar (ra) once said that if Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (ra) was alive today, I would
have appointed him as the Khalifa. Similarly, during the discussion about Khilafat after the demise of the
Holy Prophet (sa), Hazrat Abu Bakr (ra) said to the people gathered there that we should all come
together at the hand of either Hazrat Umar (ra) or Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (ra).
➢ When Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (ra) accepted Islam in Mecca, he received many hardships and torments from
his father. He was also part of migration towards Abyssinia. It is reported that when he migrated to
Medina, the Holy Prophet (sa) was extremely delighted to see him and Hazrat Umar moved ahead to
embrace him.
➢ He participated in all battles alongside the Holy Prophet (sa). He was 41 years old at the time of the
battle of Badr. His father chased him down consistently during this battle in order to kill him. However,
Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (ra) kept dodging him. Initially, he did not want to hurt his father. However, when
he saw that his father was not going to stop chasing him, his love for faith prevailed over family ties and
he ended up killing his father during the war.
➢ During the battle of Uhud, the Holy Prophet (sa) was struck with rocks which broke his front teeth. The
rocks struck him with such force, that the hooks of his armour became lodged in his face. Hazrat Abu
Bakr (ra) narrates that when the Holy Prophet (sa) was struck, he saw a person running towards the Holy
Prophet (sa) with such speed that it seemed as if he was flying. This person was Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (ra).
Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (ra) took hold of one of the hooks stuck in the blessed face of the Holy Prophet (sa)
with his teeth and pulled it. He had to pull so hard, that when the first hook came out, he fell back and
one of his teeth broke. Then when he pulled the second hook out, another one of his teeth broke.
➢ Other than the wars fought alongside the Holy Prophet (sa), the Holy Prophet (sa) also sent Hazrat Abu
Ubaidah (ra) to lead various military expeditions. Similarly, during the era of Khilafat, he led many armies
and conquered various cities. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih (aa) mentioned the details of many such
expeditions.
➢ After the victory of Mecca, the Holy Prophet (sa) made a peace treaty with the people of Yemen on the
condition of Jizya (tax). Once, when Hazrat Abu Ubaidah (ra) returned to Medina after collecting Jizyah,

the Holy Prophet (sa) addressed the people after Fajr prayer. He said that you should rejoice over the
wealth that God has granted you. I do not fear that you will be inflicted with poverty. Rather, I am afraid
that when you receive wealth in abundance, you will destroy yourself by falling into greed.
➢ Hazrat Khalifatul Masih (aa) stated that this is a warning for every person. Looking at Muslim leaders
today, we see them engulfed in materialism and far from faith. As per the prophecy of the Holy Prophet
(sa), we should remember that we will certainly receive wealth; however, we should not become leave
behind our faith due to this.
➢ Hazrat Khalifatul-Masih (aa) instructed that we should all pray for the Ahmadis of Pakistan as they are
facing heightened opposition. May Allah keep them safe from the evil of clerics! The political leaders
should remember that if they continue to follow Maulvis, they will certainly be ruined.
