President’s Message
Greetings all
We are approaching the halfway mark on 2016. Where are you?
BIG NEWS!!!We have some changes happening at TAPPA.
As you know we have already implemented the new RSVP pre-pay system for our meetings.
We have more changes happening right now.
You may not be aware that we have been losing a lot of money by holding Salon meetings with such a small amount of participation. This is not good.
So we have decided that we will drop the second Salon of the year and use this meeting as a recruiting meeting, instead.
The month of June was looking pretty rough for Salon anyhow as it is the month that we have to change our meeting date because of FPP Workshops (formerly known as Florida School). Whenever we have to change the dates we see a reduction in attendance so that was bound to spill over into Salon, too.
So… Let’s do something exciting instead. For the June meeting, which will be Tuesday, June 21, 2016, we will have a wonderful guest speaker. The ever-charming Jane Conner-Ziser will be giving a presentation on Photoshop and her workflow. What a treat!!
But wait, there’s more…..YES. As a recruiting meeting we are inviting you to bring a friend and the cost for your friend will be covered by TAPPA. We encourage you to use this to bring someone who might be interested in joining us.

Selling
By Chuck Vosburgh, CPP
84% of all sales in American originate from word of mouth and past satisfied customers but yet most salespeople focus the majority of their efforts on generating new leads. It doesn’t work.
Consider the amount of time and resources it takes to create the first sale from a stranger. It’s a lot. Now consider the amount of time and resources it takes to create the first sale from someone who has been referred to you by one of their friends. Much easier. Now think about how much it takes to create a second sale from someone who was satisfied with you the last time you worked together. Super easy.
Please don’t misunderstand, I’m not saying that lead generation isn’t important. It is, and you need all three to win; new leads, referrals and repeat customers. It’s just that the best place to get new business is from existing customers and it’s easier than you think.
If you don’t already have an “A” list of people in your contacts it’s time to create one. This list consists of past customers, people who have recommended you, people who know, like and trust you and people who you think are likely to
buy from you. You MUST be in touch with those people at least monthly, preferably twice a month. At this stage you’re probably thinking you don’t have enough time to do this, but you do. Just take some of the time you spend on less productive activities and devote it to this and I guarantee your business will grow. A word of caution though, you won’t see the fruit of your labor right away and that’s a good thing. It makes people with less fortitude quit before it starts working and lose out. The way I see it it’s the natural selection process of business. Only the fit deserve to win. Excuses are for losers.
Here’s how to manage itStart keeping notes on your contacts. Almost all contact systems have a notes field, so unless you have incredible memory start writing about your last interaction, what they are interested in, their family. Just like the doctor looks over your file before he walks in, you’ll look over your notes before you communicate. The key to this working is that you must care about the people on your list. If anything you do in sales is disingenuous people will know it.
Relationships always winPeople hire those they know, like and trust.

Let’s say we have someone on our list by the name of Jane and we know that Jane loves the orchestra, has three dogs and enjoys gardening. How could we stay in touch with her? Maybe we could drop off some dog treats or seeds. Perhaps keep an eye out for articles online about the local orchestra or gardening tips that may be of interest. Maybe you noticed on FaceBook that they won an award for something, call and congratulate her. Look for any excuse to send a hand written card too. Did you notice that these were not all emails? Email carries the least amount of impact because it’s too easy and common. Taking the time to stop by or pick up the phone and call is much more memorable. There’s an added benefit to doing this, it feels great and will make you happier, which in turn will help motivate you to be a better business person. It’s all about being genuine.
Here’s what we’re doingHere’s what we’re doing at the moment: Sunflower seeds. We’re dropping by our contacts and giving them a pack of sunflower seeds. This small gesture puts a smile on people’s faces and shows them we care. We also keep a stack of cards right next
to our desks with a nice photograph on it and we keep looking for any excuse to mail one. We’ve seen our cards on people’s walls often and even seen a couple of them framed! You have some photographs you could make cards of, right?
On the night of July 3rd we’re going to put an American flag in every yard in our neighborhood with a small note from us.
Relationships can be a lot of work, but the rewards are priceless.
ResourcesWe get our cards from 4over4.com
Our Sunflower seeds came from VermontWildFlowerFarm.com
We ordered our American flags from CollinsFlags.com

Retouching for Competition
We all know that winning image competitions takes a lot of effort from start to finish. The photography has to be a step above beautiful, the right images need to be selected and from there every effort must be made to coax out the best of it through impeccable retouching and presentation. It’s not too difficult to create images that will score between 78-82 depending on how it comes up and how the panel feels about it, but when you want to score big, it’s all about perfection and giving the judges the confidence they need to shoot your score out of the ballpark. Details, details, details! In this presentation, Jane will walk you through some of the award winning images she’s retouched and show you how careful retouching can make the difference between really, really good and amazing.
Come early - and bring 3-4 images on a flash drive if you don’t mind sharing with the group and we’ll go over them during the session - free advice from Jane!
Meeting is on the 3rd Tuesday this month!
