EGJH Principal’s Report February 2009 NAEP Testing – Eighty EGJH students participated in this year’s administration of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). NAEP is a federally mandated assessment given in grades 4, 8, and 12. Many people have told me this is the first ever administration of NAEP in the Tanque Verde USD. The testing proctors from NAEP were very complimentary of our students and impressed with the good behavior and effort demonstrated to do well on the assessment. There will be no personal or school results provided as scores are reported by state only. Academic Showcase – The annual Academic Showcase will be held on Thursday, March 5th from 6 to 8 pm. There will be a free supper at 6:00 with entertainment provided by the EGJH Band and Choir. Classrooms and the MPR will be full of examples of student work and projects, and there will be a silent auction in the MPR. Please plan to attend. Google Documents – The staff has learned how to share information through the use of Google Documents. Staff members are able to contribute items to the daily announcements which are then read in homeroom by the student council representatives on a daily basis. Assembly – The student council and advisor Donna Wilson planned and implemented an assembly for the Junior High. A volleyball competition was held between various student teams and a teacher team also participated (and won). The students had a great time and are looking forward to the next activity tha is being planned (possibly a talent show). Weekly Newsletters – We send a weekly newsletter (as well as other updates) through Constant Contact to all EGJH parents. During the past month there have been several special events. Our fifth grade students went to BizTown in Phoenix for an economic simulation which was the culminating activity after several weeks study of economic concepts. Students enjoyed managing their own money, having a job and taking on a variety of responsibilities. Fifth grade students also had a visit from a mobile Ben Franklin museum which contained a replica of a printing press from the 1700’s. A Ben Franklin role player also demonstrated a static electric generator which was a replica of the original. This was a great opportunity to learn about his life. Several staff members and I will be attending an informational workshop in Phoenix about Singapore Math on March 2nd. I have been interested in this for a while and am interested in what their teachers do differently. In 1995, 1999, and 2003, Singapore fourth and eighth grade students performed at the top on the Trends in Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS). Results for the most recent test are not yet available. I will be happy to share what I have learned in my next newsletter or at my next Principal’s Coffee. This is scheduled shortly afterward on March 5th. Love of Reading Week took place the week of February 9. The theme was “Driven to Read”, and there were daily activities to promote reading. Some of these included a Book Character Parade, guest readers in the library and special classroom events. We appreciate Pat Tucker’s (our librarian) hard work in making this such a great success. Tryouts have begun for the upcoming Talent Show on March 6 at 6:00 PM. Everyone gets to participate, but the tryouts give us an opportunity to make sure that the performance is appropriate. As always, TVES is a very busy place.

Technology Inc. for an educational assessment system __________________________________________________________________ We are able to purchase an educational assessment system (Galileo) from Assessment Technology, Inc. through the use of the SAVE Cooperative Purchasing Agreement without having to do an RFP process. The agreement is for FY 2008-09 with three annual renewal options. Our district has performed the required due diligence procedures to insure that this SAVE contract RFP process for these goods and services met the requirements of the Arizona Procurement Code. The recommendation is to have the Governing Board approve the use of the SAVE Cooperative Purchasing Agreement for the selection of Assessment Technology Inc. as the vendor for purchasing an educational assessment system (Galileo) for the district pursuant to SAVE RFP # 07-009-12.

SOLE SOURCE PROCUREMENT MEMO Vendor- Climatec Date- FY 2008-09 Projected Expenditures- $ 7,500 to $ 10,000 The procurement of services from this vendor is a sole source procurement because we use this vendor’s fire alarm system at the EGJH campus and they are the only company that can service their system. The district benefits by keeping the system warranties in effect. Also, by having a reliable system and an annual service maintenance agreement with the vendor, the safety of students, employees, and parents is maintained. February 4, 2009 Summary Memo-Documentation covering Due Diligence related to SAVE Cooperative Agreement For Educational Assessment Management System with Assessment Technology Inc. (ATI)- RFP # 07-009-12 The following is the due diligence steps that were performed (note that red ink notations on the RFP were used to highlight some of the documentation)-

1. Obtained the RFP # 07-009-12 dated June 2007 from Coolidge School District - based on my review of the RFP, it was noted that the document complies with the Arizona Administrative Code - Article 10, School District Procurement Sections R7-2-1041 to R7-2-1050, R7-2-1093, and R7-2-1191 to 1195 in all respects.

2. Note that the RFP covers FY 2008-09 and 3 additional years optional renewal 3. Overall, this purchase complies with all the pertinent legal requirements and our
