My life is like a wave. Both its amplitude and

frequency have been varying over time during

my life. Well, now I am as old as 60 years.

At first sight, it seems like a planar arrangement

with regularly arranged boards, but as the

viewer moves left and right, the boards like

Dominobegin to move together.

It is a visual art work utilizing the illusion effect

that occurs between the stripe pattern and the

plate.

On March 11, 2011, unexpectedly, that mega

quake took place in the “Tohoku” area. Tsunami

destroyed numbers of houses and killed many

citizens including my friends in Ishinomaki city

where I lived. As time goes by, our memory fades

away. Here, I express my mourning to quake

victims. I put some pictures on the side of the

boards of my work in order to remain us of the

memory.

The wave is beautiful, indeed. However, it conveyed

a lot of debris to the coast. Is this one of purification

actions of the earth? We all are small living things,

whereas the Earth is a giant creature. The Tsunami

may be one of the functions of the Earth to exclude

its own malignant tumor. Of course, I personally love

peaceful waves.

In the Japanese art, the white vacant space

does not mean “nothing”, but it represents a

graceful moment of silence and tensions. This is

a sort of Japanese philosophy.

We can enjoy the “flavor” of delicate sunlight in Northern

Europe. For example, Sunlight shed on the surface of snow in

late winter; brilliant sunlight shed through trees in early spring.

In particular, sunlight shed on sprouting plants make our heart

so exciting. While I like the sunlight during the white night,

spring sunlight is very special. Sunlight with low angle makes

beautiful shadow of trees that are swinging in the soft spring

breeze. Indeed, this is a harmony of sunlight and shadow.

generous art collaboration with us. He is one

of the world-famous one-hand piano player

living in Finland. For that art collaboration,

Izumi selected special music, and we were

moved very much by his piano play. Finally,

we cordially thank Henry the director of the

art museum, as well as many staffs including
