Tall Tower
Tales
Published by The Towers Items of interest to Towers residents should Editor, Kristen Orr be submitted by the 15th of each month.
At the time of printing, the Mutual No. Fifty Board of Directors had not held its open session meeting.
The meeting was held on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. Look for a wrap up of the July and August meetings will be included in the September Tall Tower Tales.
In the meantime, here is a reminder of several of the rules we have here at The Towers: In-Unit Construction
With all the new residents at The Towers comes in-unit construction and renovation. As new residents hire contractors to beautify and upgrade their new home, please note that there are some rules for construction. All in-unit work must have a Construction Authorization Form
submitted to the Reception Desk. Certain types of work must have Board approval. Construction work is permitted to be performed Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Any
construction noise outside of those hours will result in the member being brought through the
compliance process. Dress Codes
There are dress codes for both Dining Rooms AND Towers’ Common Areas. For copies of the dress codes, please contact the Administration Office at 949-597-4228. Any reported violations of these codes will result in the member being brought through the compliance
process. Quiet Hours
The Board has approved the following quiet hours for activities in and around residential units. This is to ensure that everyone is respectful of their neighbors.
In-Unit Quiet Hours: 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
Laundry Room Hours: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Trash Chute Hours: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Resident Employee Code of Conduct The Board has developed and enfoces a Resident Employee Code of Conduct. Towers’ residents are personally responsible for ANY employee they bring onto the property. This
includes caregivers, handymen, drivers, accountants, etc. Please make sure you and your employees have reviewed and signed the code of conduct (available at the Admin. Office).
Pet Rules Pets are allowed in The Towers, as long as the resident submits the proper paperwork and pays the annual pet fee ($35) to the Association and follows the Association’s pet rules.
Please contact the Administration Office at 949-597-4228 for more information or to obtain copies of the rules.
Balconies No clothing items or other fabrics (rugs, towels, etc.) are allowed to hang on balcony railings, EVER. No items are allowed to be thrown off/brushed off/run off balconies, including trash,
leaves, or water. Any violations of these rules will result in the member/owner being brought through the compliance process.
New at The Towers: The Coloring Group Most of us would agree that coloring is fun and can be a great social activity. Looking at a
beautiful design and creating a gorgeous piece of art can be very gratifying! But, did you
know that ‘coloring’ is also REALLY GOOD for your health?
See for yourself in the article below (published in The Huffington Post):
Coloring Isn’t Just For Kids. It Can Help Adults Combat Stress. By: Elena Santos
Coloring is an activity that we tend to associate with children. As we grow older, we put
aside our crayons and colored pencils in favor of more respectable writing utensils like
pens and highlighters. However, it turns out coloring can be beneficial for adults — namely
for its de-stressing power.
The practice generates wellness, quietness and also stimulates brain areas related to
motor skills, the senses and creativity. In fact, publishers have lately been launching
coloring books specifically for adults. The trend is alive and well throughout the world!
One of the first psychologists to apply coloring as a relaxation technique was Carl G. Jüng in
the early 20th century. He did this through mandalas: circular designs with concentric
shapes similar to the Gothic churches’ rose windows. They have their origin in India.
When coloring, we activate different areas of our two cerebral hemispheres, says
psychologist Gloria Martinez Ayala. “The action involves both logic, by which we color forms,
and creativity, when mixing and matching colors. This incorporates the areas of the
cerebral cortex involved in vision and fine motor skills. The relaxation that it provides lowers
the activity of the amygdala, a basic part of our brain affected by stress.”
In simplest terms, coloring has a de-stressing effect because when we focus on a particular
activity, we focus on it and not on our worries. But it also “brings out our imagination and
takes us back to our childhood, a period in which we most certainly had a lot less stress.”
This has the ability to lead us immediately and unconsciously to welfare.
Join us any FRIDAY in The Rendezvous Room between 10am-12pm as we color
beautiful designs, de-stress and relax together! No art background necessary;
coloring pages and colored pencils provided. We hope to see you there!

AUGUST RESIDENT OF THE MONTH: JANTJE KRANT
Jantje Krant was born on June 20, 1929 in a small town in the
Netherlands. She was born and raised in this small town called Ruinen
Drenthe. Her parents were Albertje Martines and Geert Stuifzand.
Jantje had a total of 6 sisters and 2 brothers. Unfortunately, her father
passed away at young age and she has hardly any recollection of him. Jantje's remembers
that her childhood was pleasant, and she remembers always having a garden full of
vegetables for her and her siblings to eat.
Jantje met a young man as they were both walking out a tram in Amsterdam. Little did
she know, that same man would later become her husband! Her first initial thoughts of this
young man was that he was so handsome. His name was Emanuel Krant and they married on
November 14th. Together, they had two wonderful and successful children, Elisabeth and
Jacob. Due to World War II, they had to emigrate from the Netherlands to the U.S. They
came to the U.S on a boat and then travelled to Utah. Emanuel was a diamond cutter, and
due to a poor job market in Utah, they decided to move to New York. They made the move to
New York while Jantje was pregnant with Elisabeth. As a family, they enjoyed going to the
park on Sundays and simply just enjoyed each other's company.
During her marriage, Jantje went to night school to learn English. Jantje worked at a
men’s shop as a cashier and did bookkeeping. She remembers one time in particular when a
man with a gun came into the store and he demanded that she open her drawer. Being the
strong-willed woman Jantje is, she refused to open the drawer. However, her boss was there
and had her give all the money to the thief. Unfortunately, her husband Emanuel passed away
at a young age, and Jantje was left as a young widow with her two children.
Jantje has been living at The Towers for one year and has been enjoying her family and
grandchildren. Elisabeth has one daughter and Jacob has a daughter and a son. Jantje
enjoys playing Bingo on Monday nights here at The Towers and talking on the phone with her
sister. Make sure to say hi to Jantje if you see her around playing bingo on Monday nights!
Friends we will dearly miss…
