for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. 6
Even when we are
weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are
comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we
suffer. 7 We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the comfort God
gives us.
y God has designed us to be in a similar relationship of GIVING and PASSING ON what we receive
y Picture a WHIRLPOOL. Each person is equally giving and pushing. Slowly the momentum gathers until you
start getting carried along.
y Thats the WHIRLPOOL EFFECT, when a combined eff ort creates motion and pull, and everyones eff ort is
lessened.
y y Principle
o Dont stop the flow (?)
4. ILLUSTRATE with EXAMPLES [2mins]
y Forgiveness
y Comforty Money
y Encouragement
y Gifts
VS...
y Passivity, spectating (sitting on the outskirts)
y Unforgiveness/bitterness
y Riding on others efforts
y Holding/clutching belongings
y Keeping SAFE
y Withholding gifts
5. PERSONALISE [2mins]
y Where do you stand?
o Spectating
o Riding/withholding
o Clutching
o Or GIVING?
y Chances are because youre at Harvest youre involved in some kind of ministry, and giving out in certain
areas. But are there areas that you hold back? That you clutch onto?
y God invites you to come, swim, immerse yourself completely. Let go of all the things that hold you back
from enjoying the whirlpool relationship
HARVEST [1min]
y What about here at Harvest? Most of the student events are organised by a few key people.
(Unfortunately we sometimes f uel that posture because of our lecture formats.)
y Do you spectate? Or are you helping f uel the momentum of our pool?
o Dont come just to receive, but to GIVE, to PASS ON everything youve been given:
o Knowledge, comfort, encouragement, gifts, money

6. PRAYER [2mins]
y Persuade
o Stunting the flow means...
HOW
y Ref using to give
y Giving the wrong things
y Giving with wrong motives
y Ref using to forgive
y Not listening to God or to Jesus teaching
RESULT
y God ref using to forgive you
y Removal of understanding
y The rebounding of condemnation
o Joining in the flow means...
y Personalise (Application)
o Practical possibilities
y Perform
o Take the Whirlpool Challenge
Extra passages:
y 2 Corinthians 5:18 All of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has
given us this task of reconciling people to him.
y 1 PETER 4:7
The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your
prayers. 8
Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of
sins. 9 Cheerf ully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay.
10God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one
another. 11
Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you.
Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then
everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever!
Amen.

y LUKE 6:37
Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back
against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.
y MARK 4:24
Then he added, Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more
understanding you will be given[c]
and you will receive even more. 25
To those who listen to my teaching,
more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they
have will be taken away from them.
y MATT 6: [the Lords prayer...] 14 If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive
you. 15 But if you ref use to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.
