talisa's day - mobile weather/calender app design process
TRANSCRIPT
THE PROBLEM
Talisa needs an efficient way to facilitate her wardrobe planning.
The solution needs to consider both her busy schedule and the changes in the weather.
HOW I FOUND THE PROBLEM
• Talisa is a freelancer and her schedule changes daily.
• With the commute and unpredictable weather, being dressed comfortably is vital
• Talisa also has an active social life and often have to plan to dress appropriately for both formal and casual occasions.
“I’m constantly worried about
beingtoo hot or cold”
“I like things basic and hassle free”
THE SOLUTION
• Integrate Talisa’s existing habits
• Gather data from her google calendar/weather/location
• Auto Suggestions generated
from her calendar and
preferences
HOW I FOUND THE SOLUTION
• Find patterns through an interview with Talisa
• Create a flowchart of her daily routine
• Create a timeline, when do these pains/pleasures happen?
• Discover her daily habits
• Understand Talisa’s priorities
“I check my Google Calendar constantly and put EVERYTHING on there!”
“I usually access my wardrobe and decide on the
weather in the AM after coffee”
methods on user research
• Talisa records everything.
• Talisa is practical & efficient.
• Talisa likes to have a set routine in the AM
• Talisa has many integrated applications.
• Tails attends many social events needs to maximize the “appropriate-ness” of her wardrobe.
findings from the interviews/research
HOW I FOUND THE SOLUTION
FIRST ITERATION
• Calendar app with weather by the hour with text suggestions on the top of what to wear.
• Can customize wardrobe without pictures
• Integrated with GCal
• Too many items
• Hard to see information you need
• Difficult to see at one glance
“I’m not sure what the tags on top mean”
“Why isn’t fashion incorporated more into this?
“it might be nice to see some coloes”
FIRST ITERATION
• Eliminated grid for calendar and incorporated lists.
• Auto suggestions with graphics.
• Can customize color
• Able to add notes
SECOND ITERATION
• Difficult to reference between calendar and schedule
• Line schedule not as effective as grid
• There is lack of need to customize color
• Notes are ineffective, since the app will only be used in short increments of time.
• Elements were notIntuitive. “What is the icon on top”
“Is that a header or navigation?”
SECOND ITERATION
TESTING
• One on one testing interviews
• Testing as if they recognize any elements.
• See if signifiers are intuitive
• See if easy to gather information at a glance
“This looks like a weather application”
“This looks like my calender”
Findings from user testing
• Implement familiar elements
• Personalize the results
• Need to absorb all information at a glance.
• Refining the flow charts to eliminate steps
Implementing the results
TESTING
