Introduction to Taleem Program

The two major goals of the Taleem program are to: • Prepare for the Khilafat Centenary by making every effort to improve

ourselves in Ibadaats (supplication of Allah) to attain the nearness of Allah and to express gratitude for blessings of 100 years of Khilafate Ahmadiyya

• Increase in our religious knowledge and improve our practice of this knowledge

Khilafat Centenary Celebration Goals: Within the next two years, all Lajna members should individually and collectively make every effort to:

• Know/learn the complete Salat with translation

• Learn to read the Holy Qur’an with proper pronunciation

• Read a book of the Promised Messiah (AS) that they have not read before

• Know the basic history of Jamaat Ahmadiyya

• Memorize the prayers prescribed by Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih V (ABA) and practice them for spiritual preparation of the Centenary of Khilafate Ahmadiyya

Increase our religious knowledge: The majority of the program should be taught in meetings, with some work done at home. The main areas of study are as follows: Holy Qur’an: Our goal is to learn to read the Holy Qur’an correctly as well as to know the translation and understand the short commentary. We will start from Sura Al-Fatihah and continue reading at least half a Ruku each month. Arabic reading rules have been provided each month. These should be practiced in meetings using the examples given. Selected words of the Holy Qur’an are included and should be learned with translation. Memorization of short Suras/prayers should be done at home. Lajna members who would like to further research a question may also use the cross references provided in the Short Commentary as well as the Five-Volume Commentary to gain a deeper understanding of the subject. Hadith: After learning the background and the basic information about Ahadith, one Hadith should be read with translation and commentary from the Forty Gems of Beauty in each meeting. Salat/Ibadaat: Special efforts should be made to ensure all members know the complete Salat in Arabic with translation. Memorization can be done at home but progress should be checked.

History of Islam and Ahmadiyyat: As part of our Khilafat Centenary Celebrations, we will cover questions on the history of Ahmadiyyat. General Knowledge: These activities include workshops, speeches, and essays regarding given topics. Participation in these special activities to enhance our knowledge is optional, but encouraged, especially for young Lajna. Memorization of the Holy Qur’an and prayers: In preparation and celebration of one hundred years of the Khilafate Ahmadiyya, our beloved Hazur advised us to say selected prayers every day. These prayers have been provided in this Workbook. Special emphasis must be given to memorize these prayers first so everyone can start saying them regularly. Some other prayers for memorization are also included in the program. Additional prayers and Suras of the Holy Qur’an are provided in the Appendixes and can be used for individual or collective memorization. We should continuously learn new prayers and Suras and memorize them so we perform Zikre-Elahi (remembrance of Allah) even when doing our daily chores.

The Ways of a Muttaqi / Unity in Khilafat

Selected Sermon: 09/03/06 – Hazur’s Address to USA Questions: 1. “I address directly the whole Jamaat every Friday. However, only those benefit from this and

only those are closer to the Khalifa of the time, who bring about a positive change in them selves after listening to my words. This is the mission of the Promised Messiah as in this day and age.” Hazur aba has explained that our community will continue to be blessed by Khilafat so long as we can keep a strong, obedient and loving bond between us, and the Khalifa of the time. How can we show our unity and attachment with Hazur aba? Think of at least 10 practical suggestions that would help us demonstrate our love and obedience to him even though he does not live near us.

2. “Therefore if you want to benefit from this direct address….you should leave this Jalsa with this determination, that according to the wishes of the Promised Messiah as and according to the oath of bai’at that you have made with the Promised Messiah as you will mold your selves according to the true Islamic teachings”

Think of three important changes you could still make to honor your Bai’at. Discuss the suggestions in your meeting. Resolve to help each other in this Jehad in a loving and supportive manner.

3. What does Hazur aba say the effect of offering five times daily prayers would be on us, and our children?

SALAT – MEMORIZATION OF SPLIT-WORD TRANSLATION

Introduction

Salat is one of the 5 Pillars of Islam. Therefore, it is the duty of every Muslim to know the complete Salat in Arabic. It is also very important to learn the meaning of the Arabic so that we can truly understand and enhance our performance of Salat. The Promised Messiah (AS) said in this regard: "The Salat is not properly observed except with concentration, and concentration cannot be achieved without humility, and humility is generated by a comprehension of that which is said. Therefore, eagerness and travail of the soul are generated more easily by supplication in one's vernacular. But this does not mean that you should dispense with the prescribed prayers and offer the Salat in your own language. (Malfoozat, Vol. VI, p. 146)” (The Essence of Islam, Volume II, p. 238-239)

HOLY QUR’AN SURAS FOR LEARNING & MEMORIZATION

The Promised Messiah (AS) said, “The Holy Qur’an is a rare pearl. Its outside is light and its inside is light and its above is light and its below is light and there is light in every word of it. It is a spiritual garden whose clustered fruits are within easy reach and through which streams flow. Every fruit of good fortune is found in it and every torch is lit from it. Its light has penetrated to my heart and I could not have acquired it by any other means. If there had been no Qur’an I would have found no delight in life. (Ayenae Kamalat-e-Islam, p. 545)”(The Essence of Islam, Volume I, p. 232-233) The following selected Suras or parts of Suras are provided for memorization of the Holy Qur’an. The memorization should be done at home but can be used by the Taleem secretary, as she considers necessary to implement the Taleem program. This memorization will encourage us to recite the Holy Qur’an more often to enhance our love of the Holy Qur’an.

PRAYERS FOR MEMORIZATION

Introduction Some prayers for memorization with translation are provided below. "For every occasion or situation a person can face, Allah has taught us a prayer in the Holy Qur’an applying to that situation. In this regard if you memorize the Holy Qur’an prayers, if not the whole but a part once in a while, and look at the Qur’anic prayers at every difficult situation you will find a prayer applying to your condition. Whatever the prayer was said for, if you say it with the same fervor, then Insha-Allah you will see the grand signs of acceptance of the prayer." Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IV (RA) (Khutba Jumma, May 24, 1991)

Most of these prayers are taken from Khazinat-Uddua (Treasures of Prayers)(Collection from Holy Qur’an, Sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Prayers of Hazrat Masih Maoud (AS) and Basics of Religious Education. Lajna Imaillah-USA has provided translations of the introductory remarks.

Although transliteration is provided for each prayer, we strongly recommend that readers learn the Arabic for the proper pronunciation.

Translation The soul of every Muslim is enlightened with the glory and the beauty of the Qur’an. The moon is the moon of others, the only moon we know is the Qur’an. Nothing like it captures the eye, though we searched far and wide. Why should it not be unique? It is the Holy Word of the Most Gracious Lord. An eternal spring blossoms forth from each of its expressions No garden possesses that excellence, no orchard resembles anything like it. There is no equal of the Holy Word of God, be it a pearl from ‘Amaan’ or a ruby from the mines of Badakhshaan.

The word of man cannot equate with the speech of God? His Divine appeal is so gloriously distinct from the lowly word of mere man.

O Lord, O Maker, O Coverer of faults, O Creator; O Beloved of mine, my Benefactor, my Sustainer. However can I offer, O Bountiful Lord, my extreme gratefulness and gratitude? Wherefrom can I bring a tongue that can fittingly perform this task? Whatever task we perform (for your sake) in your path, we receive a reward What did you see in me that you showered me with such joy and Beneficence over and over again From the very beginning, I passed my days in Your Shade; As if a weaning baby, I lived in the cradle of Your Lap In all of mankind, such loyalty is not seen as is in You Other than You, a truly Compassionate Friend has never been seen.

Surah Al-Teen At the end of Surah Al-Teen, when Allah asks

Is not Allah the Best of judges? (95:9) we agree and say,

Yes! And I am among the witnesses to that!

Funeral (Janaza) Prayer

The Imam commences the Prayer by saying Allahu Akbar, i.e., Allah is the Greatest, aloud. The followers say the same in a low tone. The Imam then recites Thanaa and Sura Fatihah silently. He then says Allahu Akbar without raising his hands. The followers say Allahu Akbar too but in a low tone without raising their hands. Then, the whole congregation recites Durood silently. After that the Imam says Allahu Akbar for the third time audibly and the particular prayers for the deceased as given below, are recited. The Imam then says Allahu Akbar for the fourth time and, turning his face towards the right says Assalamo Alaikum wa Rahmatullah, and turning his face towards the left repeats the same to mark the end of the Prayer.

The followers, also, say Assalamo Alaikum wa Rahmatullah, in a low tone and also turn their faces to the right and left.

There is no Ruku or Prostration in the Funeral Prayer. Funeral Prayer in absentia can also be offered for a deceased person. To offer a Funeral Prayer for a Muslim is obligatory for the body of all Muslims. It is called Fardh-i-Kifaya. Thus if only a few people offer the Funeral Prayer they are deemed to have done it on behalf of all Muslims. The rest of the Muslim Community is therefore absolved from the obligation of performing the Funeral Prayer.

If the deceased is an adult, male or female, the following Prayer is recited:

Allahumaghfir lihayyina wa mayyitina wa shahidina wa ghaibina wa saghirina wa kabirina, wa Thakarina wa unthana. Allahumma man ahyaitahu minna fa ahyihi 'alal Islam, wa man tawaffait-tahu minna fa tawaffahu 'alal-Iman. Allahumma la

tahrimna ajra-hoo wala taftinna ba`ada-hoo. O. Allah, forgive our living ones and our deceased ones and those of us who are

present and those who are absent, and our young ones and our old ones and our males and our females.

O Allah those of us whom Thou grantest life, keep them firm on Islam, and those of us whom Thou causest to die, cause them to die in the faith. Deprive us not, O Allah, of the benefits relating to the deceased and subject us not to trial after him. (Ibn Maja Kitabul-

Janaiz, Bab-ud-Dua fis-Salati alal janazah page 107). Note: If the deceased is a female, read ajra-haa and ba`adahaa in place of ajra-hoo and ba`ada-hoo.
