Taken

Camera

Sound

Mise en scene

Editing

In the action thriller Taken,

Various camera shots are

used.

For example when Brian Mills

on the

Phone to the CIA trying to

rescue his daughter,

His facial expression is

presented with a close up.

By using a close up shot, the

audience are

Clearly able to see Mills

expression.

This will intrigue the audience, as

they’ll

Start feel anxious themselves

which will build

Tension. This implies that the

close up shot

Is used to provoke the audiences

emotions, referring

That the audience will feel as if

they’re part of the film it’s self.

Also the close up shot

used

Foreshadows that

something will take place.

In this scenario the close-

up shot foreshadows

That mills daughter is

closer to death than

expected.

This makes the audience

feel worried and anxious,

As they know Mills hasn’t

got long left to rescue his

daughter

In Taken Mise en Scene

is presented in various

ways.

Such as the setting,

costumes, lighting and so

on.

Through out all of the

action scenes

In Taken, Brian Mills is

presented wearing

A full on black outfit; black

leather jacket,

Black jumper, black

trousers and his usual gun.

Through the use of the

costume, Mills is

presented to be

mysterious. This is due to

all the dark colors he is

presented wearing. These

gritty and dark colors

represent Mills to be a

brave and heroic

character.

Also the costume breaks

the stereotype

That Brian Mills is a

vulnerable and naïve

character

Due to the situation he is

in.

However through Mills

costuming this contradicts

this stereotype.

This is because Mills

costume presents to the

audience that he is not

Intimidated by anyone,

implying that he can and

will do anything to recue

his daughter.

In taken sound is used

very effectively.

For example, when Brian

Mills is on the phone

To the CIA trying to

rescue his daughter.

An intense orchestral

soundtrack is used.

The intense orchestral

provokes

Angry emotions which

emphasizes the

Fact that Mills is desperate

for the return of

His daughter. This causes

the audiences to feel

Empathy and sorrow for

Mills.

Helping the audience feel a

sense of familiarity.

Also dialogue is put on

top of the soundtrack,

This foreshadows that

something tragic will

Happen further on in

the movie.

In this scene editing isn’t used

at all.

There is more attention on all

the other

Aspects of cinematography

apart from

Editing.

I believe editing hasn’t been used to

Exaggerate what is actually taking place

In the scene, and this is provoked by

Such things like facial expressions and

Soundtrack.

This shows that editing

Doesn’t always have to be

used.

Rather the simplicity of a

scene, can

Can capture the audiences

attention and

Become emotionally in

contact with the

Audience.
