Take That These Days

First Scene

• The video starts with an establishing shot of what looks like earth or another planet

• This is used to make the viewer interested and to make the video very strange from other videos. However this is also a very smart transition from something very controversial to something very relevant

Second Scene

• The Camera uses a long shot then zooms into the set to then follow one of the band members

• The song has now started when we first see one of the band members' he camera tracks around the fake planet and onto one of the members of take that, following him over t where the set of the video is.

• In this shot the camera is introducing the viewer to the band and the song. However this then makes them question why the transition was used. However this also gives the viewer an insight into what would happen on a set.

Third Scene

• As in the last shot we see this was shot from an upright wall. However the camera is using a mid to long shot to create an illusion that we are looking at take that from up above in a high angle shot

• Not many editing techniques have been used as it is seamless and looks like they have done it in one shot. The scene lasts about 4 to 5 seconds.

• Take That have obviously manipulated the way some people film these sort of scenes to make people think that they are filming from above.

Fourth scene

• This medium shot is now isolating the members from everything else. • The band are still wearing pyjama’s suggesting that this could be

simulating a day in the life of Take that. They are still wearing the same colours as they were in the last scene. They are also moving in time with the soundtrack.

• The song dialogue has now started as it is the next verse. This is happening while the camera is slowly zooming in to match the speed in which they are singing.

• The scene lasts around 4 to 5 seconds while they sing the first part of the verse. This is also used as another transition into a different scene.

Fifth Scene

• A close to mid shot • In this part of the music video Take that are in space, this then

starts to make sense as it links to the fist shot we get of the video. They are all also looking primed suggesting that this is a different part of the day. They are also still wearing blue which is a very masculine colour yet it makes them stand out.

• The editing is done so again it is transitioning into another scene. Take that are also standing in front of a green screen to simulate space. The scene lasts about 4 to 5 seconds.

Sixth Scene

• This is a close up shot to a long shot • Editing has been used from the last scene as

something passes the screen then shows us from the point in which they turn around and we get the shine of the jackets

• The main characters in the video are being focused on by looking at their hands

Seventh Scene

• A close to mid shot is used • The camera then zooms into Howard moving the

scene on. This is also when the song goes into the last verse.

• In this last part of the bridge scene we see Howard pushing the scene away like they are pushing away negative things that come with the life of filming music videos. This also makes it clear that Take that are the main protagonists of the video.

Eighth Scene

• This is a long shot showing the setting and extras • In this last scene we see Take that on a podium above everyone else suggesting

that they are the superior ones in this scene. The scene however uses a lot of artificial lighting but this simulates happiness from the viewer and suggests that this is the happiest part of the song where everything is fine. Take that are also wearing the same costume that they were wearing previously suggesting that they have not been controlled this time and are being themselves. Everything is also back to bright colours which also represents positivity.

• There does not seem to be any editing in this scene. However the pace of the scene is rather quick because this is the finale of the video and the director want it to be fast paced

Conclusion

In conclusion These Days by Take that is very controversial to other pop videos. However it also fits in with many of the different pop conventions like bright costumes, and artistic transitions (like Taylor Swifts ‘We are never getting back together’).
