Coordinated Graphics program gives Medical Center publications a consistent image

Donald Giller, director of Marketing Communications & Public Affairs at the Medical Center, reports that the Coordinated Graphics Program thus far been successful in presenting the Boston University Medical Center image to the public in a clear and consistent manner . The program was developed to express a more identifiable image for each of the BUMC constituent institutions while using the Medical Center affiliation to each institution's advantage

Departments are reminded to incorporate the program as they reorder such printed materials as stationery, business forms, publications, advertising and signage. The Office of Marketing Communications & Public Affairs, which oversees the program, invites members of the BUMC community to contact the Office of Publication Services (OPS) for assistance in incorporating the program. Hospital publications have been redesigned to reflect the changes.

The Coordinated Graphics Program was implemented by OPS in cooperation with the Educational Media Support Center and the University's Graphic Design Office. For more information about the program please call the Office of Publication Services at x8482 (638-8482).

Donors who are entered in the drawing are employees who increase their donations over last year by 50 cents per week; first-time givers of 50 cents per week; or any giver who contributes at a level equal to one hour' s pay per month for 12 months.

Don't miss StreetFest '87-a celebration of the opening of the Atrium Pavilion

By now we're sure that most-if not all---of you have heard about StreetFest '87, a street fair that will be held on Saturday, OcL 17, from noon to 5 p.m. This is to remind all UH employees that this "block party" is open not only to you, but also to your family and friends. There is something in StreetFest '87 for all ages and all tastes, in both food and entertainment. This community celebration of the opening of the Atrium Pavilion features free admission and free food, plus complimentary parking in Lot Con Albany Street.

To make it easier for people to get to StreetFest, a Boston DoubleDeckers "shuttle" will stop every hour on the hour at the St. James Street bus stop, located directly across from the Copley Plaza Hotel. An additional stop will be made at the Boston Center for the Arts at 539 Tremont Street

The Atrium Pavilion Lobby and tour center will be open all day on Oct. 17. A slide presentarion that was produced for the building's opening will be shown in the tour center throughout the day.

A reminder to LH employees: Don't forget to return your prize entry form to be eligible for a free trip for two to Jamaica. (The winner must be present at StreetFest unless he or she is working) . The contest is open to UH employees only.

Hospital's policy on smoking revised; smoking prohibited in public areas

Effective immediately, the Hospital's policy on smoking has been revised to include a ban on smoking in all UH lobbies, including levels 1 and 2 of the Atrium Pavilion, as well as in the Evans and Preston Family building lobbies and the Emergency Room.

Smoking is permitted only in the following areas:

• Patient/visitor lounges on designated nursing units, as determined by the Nursing staff;

• Patient rooms, when all patients housed in the room concur and permission has been obtained from Nursing (visitors may not smoke in any patient room at any time);

• The smoking section of the Hospital cafeteria; and • Private work areas as specified by the individual

managers. The revised smoking policy prohibits smoking in such

public areas as lobbies, corridors, stairwells, lavatories and elevators. The Hospital does not permit the sale of cigarettes or of other tobacco products on its premises.

Smoking is contrary to good health, and hospitals are expected by the public to take a leadership role in encouraging good health practices. Your compliance in this matter is appreciated.
