GENERAL FOR USERS

AM TEHO S09H tail gate spreader is meant to be used as attached to a truck. The tail gate spreader is attached to replace the back board of a truck, or the back board is lift up for the spreader use. The spreader functions with the truck’s hydraulics. The tail gate spreaders I s filled up by raising the platform when the material spreaded flows to the spreader. Fine adjustment of the material spreaded is carried out from the truck cabin with pneumatic valve, which regulate the area of the spreading hole. Coarse adjustment is carried out both by changing the position of the hatch of the spreader and by changing the rotation speed of the roller. Altering the rotation speed of the roller is carried out by using the distributing valve in the spreader or the possible proportional valve located in the truck. The coarse adjustment is needed only when changing the material spreaded. The spreading width is nearly constant, in other words the width of the spreader. Spreading other materials than sand or salt may damage the AM TEHO S09H tail gate spreader and truck’s hydraulics as well as endanger the user or other people. AM TEHO S09H is suitable to be used both in the summer and in the winter.

WORK SAFETY

- If the device blocks up, all functions of the device has to be turned off before clearing the

blockage.

- Never go underneath the platform when it is in raised position, unless the supporting bracket

between the platform and the vehicle’s frame is in its place.

- Never go onto the platform when the vehicle’s motor is running.

- Working with the spreader with platform down. Filling up the spreader is carried out by raising the

platform when the vehicle is STOPPED. Therefore the spreader must be equipped with a warning

indicator.

- Notice when filling up the spreader, that when the amount of sand is diminished - and when

raising the platform - the burden can become so tail-heavy, thanks to the weight of spreader and

sand flowed to the rear, that the platform does not go down. Because of this the spreader must

always be filled up bit by bit and cautiously.

- Never rotate the device backwards, just only momentarily move backwards if the material

spreaded is stuck between the roller and the roller rubber. In this case be especially careful.

- The device must be stored so, that it cannot fall down or fall over.

- In case the hatch of the spreader (see s. 18, part no. 10) is opened when the spreader is on, a

safety valve (see s. 19 part no. 2) stops the device. Close the hatch immediately after

maintenance or fault correction, at which time make sure that there are no other people close to

the spreader.

- Do not open the maintenance hatches or maintain the spreader while the vehicle’s motor is

running.

- Under any circumstances DO NOT go underneath the tail gate spreader. - It’s allowed to rotate the device only when it’s completely attached to the truck.

FIRST INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

- The spreader is lifted up to the back of the platform for welding the fasteners. The angle-

iron in the bottom edge of the spreader’s gap is placed on the platform’s trail edge. Make

sure that the device is tightly attached to the rear of the truck. The spreader has to be

temporarily supported, which ensures that the device neither move while welding nor fall

down on anybody.

- The side fasteners and upper ears are horizontally and vertically welded so, that the

fasteners have enough margin for both tightening the spreader tightly against the

platform’s side and detaching the device (see p. 17).

Sleeves (49144) through the side

ATTACHING AND DETACHING - The back board of the truck is lifted up or fully removed. The truck is driven in front of the

spreader so, that the platform’s edge comes close to the angle-iron in the bottom edge of

the spreader’s gap. After this the upper fasteners are attached to the ears in the platform’s

edge, turned down and locked (see p. 17). The supports are lifted up. The side fasteners

are attached and tightened to the platform’s sides. The hydraulic hoses are coupled

considering the marks so, that the device rotates to the right direction. Finally the pressure

air hose is coupled.

- Detaching is carried out in opposite order. Notice when detaching that before loosening

the upper fasteners, each support has to be on a solid ground and the ground has to be in

so horizontal plane, that the spreader cannot fall over.

SPREADING THE SAND

ACTIONS BEFORE SPREADING ♦ Check attachment of the spreader ♦ Check that there are no foreign objects in the tank ♦ Check that there are no leaks in the hydraulic hoses or -connectors ♦ Check operations of the spreader and driving lights ♦ Repair found faults immediately The tail gate spreader is filled up by raising the platform so much that the material flows from the platform and fills up the tank. The platform is put down for spreading and when the spreader becomes empty, it is cautiously filled up. Only NaCL- and CaCL-salts and sand are allowed to be spread with the spreader. Among the material spreaded must not be any foreign objects, as it endangers the user and surroundings and damages the device. Recommended driving speed when spreading sand and dry salt is max. 30 km/h and when spreading moisturized salt max. 45 km/h. THE GENERAL TRAFFIC RULES MUST ALWAYS BE FOLLOWED WHEN SPREADING! NOTE! During spreading take notice of solid obstacles, surroundings and other traffic; both oncoming and that approaching from behind. Remember to watch out for pedestrians and cyclists and not to endanger them when spreading. Be especially cautious when spreading in intersections. Avoid unnecessary reversing.

MAINTENANCE/STORAGE OF THE TAIL GATE SPREADER Maintenance of the spreader consists mainly of lubrication at regular intervals. Check daily after spreading the tightness of the hydraulic system. After using salt the spreader is washed with water before storage, and always cleaned from the sand and salt. The bearings and chains are lubricated. Check the spreader’s lights and repair as needed. Tightness of the chains is always checked when lubricating, and tightened if necessary. Tightening is carried out by loosening the tensioning screws of the adjustable bearing housing and after that tightening the chains by moving the axle and finally closing the screws. NOTE! Storing on own supporting legs only when the tank is empty.

WELDING OF ZINC COATED METAL

Welding will always create air pollution, e.g. carbon monoxide that is hazardous to health. It is very important to arrange sufficient ventilation at the welding site. When welding zinc coating, zinc fumes are formed which may cause zinc fever. Symptoms of zinc fever: High body temperature (even over 40°C), tiredness, pain in joints, nausea and headache. Symptoms generally appear a couple of hours after exposure. Zinc fever generally passes quickly and it does not cause permanent injury. The fever is evidence of insufficient ventilation.

Picture: flow control valve

Normal use: A = pressure B = tank Safety valve stops the motor’s rotation when the hatch is being opened. With the flow control valve it is possible to alter the rotation speed of the hydraulic motor in those trucks, in which the directional control valve is not adjustable. If the truck is equipped with adjustable directional control valve, the flow control valve is always completely in the open-position. Reversing: B = pressure A= tank Be especially cautious when reversing! (During reversing the flow control valve always has to be in the maximum position.)

ADJUSTING THE SPREADING AMOUNT WITH THE PNEUMATIC

REGULATOR

By turning the adjusting screw in the pneumatic regulator adjust the

wanted pressure. Increasing the pressure reduces the spreading amount

while decreasing the pressure opens the mouth rubber and so increases

the spreading amount. Notice that the operating range of the bellows is

1-5 bar, but with the regulator it is possible to increase the pressure over

the bellows’ operating range. This is useless from the user’s point of

view, because the smallest spreading amount is gained with pressure a

little less than 5 bars. The spreading amounts with different pressures of

one measuring test are listed in the attached table. The results of this test

can be used as indicative values when adjusting the spreading amount.

Accurate adjustments have to be carried out for each truck

individually. (Notion: In some cases the compressed air necessary for

the tail gate spreader is better to be taken from the pressure air hose

directed to the seat.)
