Embryonic stem cells are obtained from prenatals at a point very early in development. Obtaining these cells typically results in the destruction of the prenatal. The direct and voluntary killing of a prenatal is always a serious sin against God because prenatal life is developing human life.

Not unless it kills an innocent human being. Embroyonic stem cell research always kills a human being in the embroyonic stage when scientists remove the stem cells.

The Catholic Church is against embryonic stem-cell research

because it involves the destruction of human embryos. Embryonic stemcell research is related to abortion, euthanasia and other

attacks on innocent life.

Republicans believe its wrong to mess with any sort of the reproductions cycle, and fear that it would cause abortion for money cases, where doctors pay women to get abortions for stem cells.

They are not against stem cell research. But many of them are against getting stem cells from fetuses. That's similar to abortion and conceivably could lead to a black market in which fetuses are sold for profit.
