    LETTER TO MEMBERS

    CONNECTIONS.

One of our conference speakers, Mark Maraia, in his book Relationships Are Everything, perhaps best expressed the importance of connections when he said, The network you cultivate over the course of your career is like a fingerprint. Its unique to you and it reflects your character.

We are very pleased to be part of the fingerprint of each of our member firms and even more pleased that the character of the TAG Alliances is recognized by members and clients around the world and by journals and rating agencies as well.

These connections are evident not only through our global recognition, but in the business our members conduct with one another and the animated conversations during our International Conferences and Regional Meetings. As the following pages show, they are evident in the ways members do business together, in the ways they learn together, in the ways they are charitable together and even in the ways they enjoy leisure time together.

In large part because of these connections, TAG Alliances are attractive to firms around the world; just look at the number of new members who joined us during 2014. Many of these firms joined, in part, due to the recommendations you provided. Thank you.

The growth of the alliance, and the growth in size of our member firms themselves, has only seemed to increase the breadth and depth of relationships. TAG Alliances members have developed ongoing relationships in markets that they share and across borders and oceans.

We look to 2015 with excitement. Our new web site will be launched to better connect us through technology; our webinars and managing partner program will better connect us through learning; our conferences will better connect us through shared experiences and our charity will better connect us through the good deeds that we do. With the past as our guide, we also know that there will be many, many other occasions that bring all of us closer.

We encourage you to use this Annual Review to educate your colleagues, your clients, prospective clients and even prospective members about TAG Alliances and all that they offer. We urge you to increase your activity and deepen your connections to TAG Alliances during 2015 and we thank you for all that you have done to create the organization that is reflected in the following pages.

Our best wishes for a healthy and prosperous 2015. See you in Edinburgh!

A valuable attribute of belonging to TAGLaw is the ability to refer out to high-quality law firms around the world. Not long ago, I received a call from an insurance executive in Wichita who had a client that needed a lawyer in Mexico City. Without hesitation, I suggested he contact Gonzlez Calvillo, S.C. and they were very pleased. That ability to quickly and confidently recommend a firm helped cement his opinion that we were a high quality law firm.

SUCCESS FROM CONNECTIONSMake an impact with your connections. You dont only connect because you want to get people who will help you. You also connect in order to get to know who you can help. Israelmore Ayivor

The ways TAG Alliances members benefit from their membership is as varied as the connections their professionals form. With 280 members around the world, different jurisdictions find value in different ways. While some firms, especially those in emerging economies and those who participate regularly in conferences, see an inbound benefit, others have been able to save numerous clients from going to multinational firms. For many members, simply the ability to use their respective TAG Alliances logo in marketing materials has helped them attract and retain clients.

But all of these benefits have one thing in common: the quality service that the members provide-- and that the TAG Alliances stand for-- is what enhances their reputations and benefits their clients.

Kansas expansive plains make it a leader in wheat production and other important agricultural sectors.

The Teotihuacn pyramids of Mexico City were built around 300 BC, centuries before the the Aztecs arrived.

...A Powerful Resource for Members and Their Clients... The breadth of services combined with the TAG Alliances reach into 95+ countries represents a powerful resource for members and their clients seeking to do business overseas. Over one-third of our recent deals have had an international dimension. But it is not only in M&A that the TAG Alliances gives us an edge.

Recent projects involving our TAG Alliances colleagues have ranged from helping a client company set up a new overseas subsidiary to advising a high-net-worth individual on his emigration plans.

Global Reach. Local Attention. Multidisciplinary Support. We were contacted by Andy Crook of Mercer & Hole (London, England TIAG) regarding a French national client. The client was residing in the United Kingdom and also had business operations in the UK, France and Algeria. They were interested in establishing operations in the U.S., specifically in the Boston area. In addition, they wanted to begin to assemble a residential real estate portfolio. It became very apparent that in addition to accounting and tax needs, they also required legal representation. At that point, I reached out to the TAGLaw member in Boston, Riemer and Braunstein (Massachusetts, USA) who ended up handling all of their needs.

Norman Posner, Samet & Company (Massachusetts, USA TIAG)

We had a Happy Client and have Strengthened Relations... We were recently asked by LK Shields (Ireland TAGLaw) to help with a client who was refinancing, replacing Bank of Ireland with Goldman Sachs. We needed to review a number of financial security documents where our firms cooperated successfully, meeting strict deadlines, and advising on complicated shareholder issues. Overall, we had a happy client and have strengthened relations with LK Shields.

Our Chilean TAGLaw Member Made Us Look Good. We were contacted by an engineering firm that wanted to hire an engineering firm in Chile as an independent contractor. We needed a law firm to review the proposed service contract and advise our client of any nuances of Chilean law. We contacted our TAGLaw affiliate Roberto Guerrero of Guerrero Olivos Law Firm (Chile) who immediately worked on the assignment along with Josefina Yavar. Their review was completed under a tight deadline and was within budget much to the delight of our client. They even found several professional liability insurance carriers in Chile to refer to the independent contractor when we suggested liability insurance. Our Chilean TAGLaw member made us look good. Many thanks to Roberto and Josefina of Guerrero Olivos Law Firm.

Joel H. Paget of Ryan, Swanson & Cleveland, PLLC (Washington, USA - TAGLaw)

Within an Hour... In February, one of our strategic partners was in need of a tax professional in Mexico for one of her international clients. Within an hour of our initial request, we were put in touch with Pepe Rib of Rib Aguirre y Asociados SC in Mexico City. The strategic partner and Pepe Rib had a discussion that same day which ultimately culminated in Pepe Rib being hired by the client within the week. The client and our strategic partner are both happy with the services provided to date.

    SUCCESS FROM CONNECTIONS

Creative Opportunities for Collaboration.Last fall, Collins Barrow Toronto LLP, an English speaking Canadian TAG-SP member, and Mallette, their French Canadian TIAG counterpart, compared their firms audit tools with the goal of improving both of their processes. Each set of tools was created in the same legal environment, but with very different business cultures in their respective provinces. This collaboration was very instructive, gave both members ways to improve, and has strengthened the connections between our firms. Creative opportunities for collaboration, such as this, make our connections in the TAG Alliances so valuable.

Robert Fortier, Mallette LLP (Quebec, Canada - TIAG)

Thanks to The Relationships We have Built...When a Belgian client of mine was interested in acquiring a French company, I contacted Aubyn, the TAGLaw member in Lille, France. They welcomed my client in their offices and worked with them through the contract negotiations, credit loans, and analysis of the social situation which was very particular. My client successfully completed the acquisition and is now a client of Aubyn. Thanks to the relationships we have built through the TAG Alliances, we were able to provide excellent, localized service at an acceptable rate to the client.

...Swiftly and Skillfully Handled...Recently, our firm successfully collaborated with Hunte & Co, BVI member of TAGLaw. The firm was acting on behalf of investors wishing to establish a corporate entity in BVI. The incorporation process was swiftly and skillfully handled by Hunte & Co. One of the main strengths of TAGLaw is the credibility of its member firms and the high level of attention recently provided by Hunte & Co to our

firm is proof of that credibility.

Christine Maksoud, Baroudi & Associates (Lebanon - TAGLaw)

...Very Impressed...I was fortunate to strike up a conversation with Angeline Chew of ACT Partners (Malaysia TIAG) during a recent TAG Alliances meeting. Angeline mentioned that the Malaysian government was introducing a Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime and it was loosely based on the Australian equivalent. One thing lead to another and we ended up agreeing to assist Angelines team with GST training and seminars for their clients. The last piece of the puzzle was a presentation to the Malaysian Institute of Accountants GST conference that was attended by 250 professionals and included speakers from the Kastam (Customs) Office, IBM and National Insurers. I was very impressed with Angelines team and her dedication to servicing clients and look forward to working together in years to come.

Lindquist Turns to TAGLaw for Help AbroadSince 2008, Lindquist & Vennum has represented the bankruptcy trustee of a number of entities involved in the Thomas Petters $3 billion Ponzi scheme. Lindquist & Vennum turned to TAGLaw when the trustee expanded the case to seek recovery from a number of foreign investors who had invested in hedge funds outside the United States that, in turn, had received money from the Petters Ponzi scheme. Several TAGLaw firms provided the client with expertise regarding the aspects of the cases touching on those countries. Those firms have included LK Shields Solicitors in Ireland; Marx Van Ranst Vermeersch & Partners in Belgium; Adam & Bleser in Luxembourg; Hodler Rechtsanwlte in Zrich, Switzerland; and Rassers Advocaten and Nysingh advoaten-notarissen N.V. in the Netherlands.

Lindquist & Vennum (Colorado, Minnesota & South Dakota, USA - TAGLaw)

...Client is in Very Good Hands...Our firm is working with a local company that is entering into a joint venture in Canada. While I can help with a lot of the documentation, I advised our client that they also needed to retain a Canadian law firm to provide advice and input with respect to applicable Canadian corporate and other laws. I contacted Brent Cooper and Rick Breen of McLeod Law LLP in Calgary and was able to refer the Canadian review work to their firm. It is very comforting to work with someone so far away and yet really know who you are working with and know that your client is in very good hands with respect to services they need but you cannot directly provide.

Quality TAG Alliances Members Working Together...ESV was recently referred a client by the TAGLaw member firm Piper Alderman here in Sydney. The opportunity was to provide management accounting and taxation services for a large Swiss company establishing a local Australian operating subsidiary. ESV worked with the Swiss Head Office and Piper Alderman to develop an appropriate strategy and framework for their Australian office and secured the appointment as their ongoing accounting partner.

As the engagement developed, a further requirement within New Zealand arose. Together with Piper Alderman, ESV referred the client to the New Zealand TAGLaw member, Duncan Cotterill. Feedback from the client has been very positive.

Overall, this situation clearly highlights the benefits of quality TAG Alliances members working together to achieve successful outcomes for our clients and each others businesses.

...Several Matters Ongoing with Our TAGLaw Correspondents. At any one time, our firm has had several matters ongoing with our TAGLaw correspondents. Recently, we assisted Lindquist & Vennum (Colorado, Minnesota & South Dakota, USA) in the takeover of a Belgian medical equipment company with subsidiaries in Germany and France. We were also able to conduct on behalf of a project developer major ICC arbitration proceedings in Madrid with the help of B. Cremades y Asociados.

In 2014, we engaged many TAGLaw members. Recently, we partnered with new member Matre Cheikh Fall in Senegal and have initiated several transactions with Cheikh Fall in a variety of matters. These include: real estate deals; the establishment of charitable organizations/NGOs which shall be associated with construction of schools, hospitals, mosques, etc.; and other business establishments. I traveled to Senegal and met Cheikh Fall and he was very helpful and precise with his advice. Our client has been very appreciative of this assistance and are currently studying to move forward with their investments in Senegal.

NEW CONNECTIONSConnections are made possible by what the parties to a connection have in common. They are made useful by what makes the parties distinctive from one another. Sharing a common language makes a connection possible. Having different skills, or knowledge, or location or other assets makes it useful.

The TAG Alliances added 19 new member firms in 2014. This creates 19 new possible connections for each of the continuing 262 members, or a total of 4978 potential new connections.

Connection is the beginning but not the end. Guest speakers at our TAG Alliances conferences frequently comment that the depth of relationships that they observe among our members is far beyond that which they see at other conferences. Our members are interested in one anothers lives and where they live, not merely their businesses and business opportunities. The following brief vignettes introduce you to our new members and where they live.

New TAG Alliances members in 2014 spanned the globe, from Cabinet Cheikh Fall in Africa to Koley Jessen in Tennessees Appalachian region.

Cabinet Matre Cheikh Fall (Senegal)Dakar, Senegal is the westernmost point on the African continent. It is also the northwest anchor of the OHADA zone, which comprises seventeen West and Central African countries that have established a common system of business laws and implementing institutions. It is the institutional context that enables Cabinet Matre Cheikh Fall to practice not only in Senegal but also throughout the OHADA zone, particularly in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea where they have offices to which they travel when needed. Conducting business in both English and French, the firm, which was founded by Cheikh Fall in 1982, has handled a large number of merger & acquisition transactions, and much of their work is in industries such as mining, property, and investments.

Delaney Partners (The Bahamas)In the 18th Century, the Bahamas were a popular haven for pirates, providing inspiration for the Disney series, Pirates of the Caribbean, which has grossed $3.7 billion, roughly twice the Bahamas national budget for 2012. In more recent years, the country has emerged as an important off-shore financial center, and the government has enacted a legislative package to better regulate the financial sector, in part to remove traces of the piracy heritage from it. Nassau-based Delaney Partners is recognized for its expertise in the core areas of practice required both for international finance and domestic business. Two of the firms senior attorneys were recently honored by the Attorney General for their contribution to the creation of a sophisticated investment fund vehicle called an Investment Condominium (ICON).

Budidjaja & Associates (Indonesia)According to the Paris-based research firm Semiocast, the worlds most Twitter-intensive city, measured by number of daily posts, is not New York, London, Tokyo or Sao Paulo. All of them trail Jakarta, the capital and commercial (not to mention Twitter) center of Indonesia, and the most populous city in Southeast Asia. (Surprisingly, Bandung, Indonesia is number 6.) All this Tweeting reflects a young and dynamic population; so it is appropriate that TAGLaws member firm there is Budidjaja & Associates, a young and dynamic, full-service law firm. Established in 2007, the firm has quickly forged a reputation as one of the leading newer legal practices in Indonesia, as evidenced by recognition from legal directories and publications such as Asialaw Profiles, IFLR 1000 and The Legal 500.

(Left to right: Tony Budidjaja & Juni Dani)

    (Pictured: Andres Moreno)

Moreno Baldivieso (Bolivia)The country of Bolivia is on a permanent high. Its capital, La Paz, is the highest national capital in the world, and Lake Titicaca the highest lake in the world. Moreover, it could be argued that a large proportion of the worlds verbal communication would grind to a halt without the Bolivian lithium that powers our cell phone batteries. But with or without lithium batteries, the powerhouse firm Moreno Baldivieso Estudio de Abogados, with its six offices across the country doing business in five languages (Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and English), has been named Bolivian Firm of the Year by Chambers Latin America in three of the last four years, as well as Highest Ranked Bolivian firm by Legal 500 two of the last three years.

Bufete Escura (Barcelona, Spain)According to a highly respected survey of European cities, Barcelona is one of the five best for locating a business. Barcelona attracts more than a million visitors every month, many of them drawn to the 4.5 kilometers of beaches created when the city converted a waterfront industrial zone into a leisure zone as part of its ambitious Olympic undertaking in 1992. Bufete Escura delivers legal services to a great number of global companies, who trust them to supervise and advise their subsidiaries due to the firms specialist knowledge of the regulatory and business framework, both in Catalonia and throughout Spain. The firm has several collaboration agreements signed with different Italian Chambers of Commerce, resulting in a special relationship with Italian companies that have Barcelona ties.

Zilvarov Ctibor Hladky v.o.s. (Czech Republic)During the period of Communist rule in Prague, the dissident playwright (and future president) Vaclav Havel was forced to work in a brewery. This is just one aspect of the Czech Republics famous beer culture, so enjoyed by TAG Alliances members during their 2005 conference. When US President Bill Clinton visited Prague, Havel took him for beers at his favorite pub, U Zlateho Tygra. But in spite of the temptations of the beer culture, the lawyers at Zilvarov Ctibor Hladky have compiled an enviable international reputation, year after year earning high rankings in Chambers International, Legal 500, IFLR, and Corporate International. Conducting business in Czech, German, English and Slovak, they focus on service to entrepreneurs in all branches of business activities.

Bone McAllester Norton (Tennessee, USA)Nashville is known around the world as Music City, home to the Grand Ole Opry, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the studios where Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Roy Acuff, Chet Atkins, Bill Monroe, and so many others have recorded their hits over the years. Why, even the driveway at President Andrew Jacksons historic home, The Hermitage, is in the shape of a guitar. Not surprisingly then, Entertainment Law is one of the eighteen areas practiced at Bone McAllester Norton, fully half of whose attorneys have been recognized as Best Lawyers in America, SuperLawyers or Best of the Bar with numerous other accolades awarded over the years. The firm matches its laser-like focus on professional competence with an exceptional commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.

Koley Jessen (Nebraska, USA)Nebraskas Sand Hills constitute the most extensive sand dunes in the Western Hemisphere, leading early European explorers to call this the great American desert. Only the Sahara and Arabian deserts have bigger areas of sand. Ironically, these dunes sit atop the High Plains Aquifer, giving Nebraska more underground water than any other state, helping make its farm land among the most fertile. Similarly fertile are the minds of Koley Jessens sixty-plus lawyers, making it one of the largest firms in the state. The Best Lawyers in America 2015 has recognized 15 Koley Jessen attorneys across 26 areas of practice and the firm has been recognized in 13 practice areas. Three of the firms attorneys were listed as Lawyer of the Year for the Metropolitan Omaha area.

Karim Adel Law Office (Egypt)Egyptian law probably goes back about 5000 years, but for millenia most contracts and deeds were oral. However, with the advent of the Demotic script in the 7th century BC, many legal transactions were required to be written. Egyptian documents from that time indicate court proceedings did not include legal advocates; so both parties would present their own arguments. Today, however, one of the parties might well turn to the Karim Adel Law Office which is currently recommended for Corporate and M&A by Chambers International and for Dispute Resolution by The Legal 500. Offering a wide range of services in English, Arabic and French to diverse international and domestic clients, Karim Adels membership was suggested to us by the TIAG member in Cairo, Hisham Labib.

Popov & Partners (Bulgaria)Bulgaria is home to the oldest Slavic literature. Missionaries from Thessalonica, the monks Cyril and Methodius devised an alphabet which was adopted in Bulgaria in the late 9th century and later formed the basis of Cyrillic, named for St. Cyril. The alphabet and the Old Bulgarian language gave rise to rich literary and cultural activity centered around schools established by order of Boris I in 886. Another kind of culture also has its origins in Bulgaria -- Lactobacillus bulgaricus, a required ingredient of any yogurt sold in the United States! Popov & Partners plays its role as one of the top 10 firms in the Bulgarian legal culture, having received recognition from such authorities as The Legal 500, IFLR 1000 and Global Law Experts.

Pritchard, Bieler, Gruver & Willison, PC (PBGW) (Pennsylvania, USA)Today, when the world runs on oil, there are more than 65,000 oil and gas fields of all sizes around the globe. But it all started in tiny Titusville, Pennsylvania in 1859 when Edward Drake drilled the very first oil well in the world. About a century later, on the other side of the state, about 30 miles from Philadelphia, the firm that is now Pritchard, Bieler, Gruver & Willison had its start. With its staff of approximately 40, PBGW is one of the largest local firms in Southeastern Pennsylvania, a location from which it delivers value to clients locally, nationally and internationally. PBGW offers a full line of accounting, taxation, auditing, valuation, litigation, payroll, merger & acquisition, technology consulting, and business consulting services.

Goldblatt McGuigan (Northern Ireland)Northern Ireland is the smallest of the UKs four countries, but in the 19th century it played a major role in the kingdoms industrial development. By 1900 it was one of Europes major manufacturing centers, leading the world in linen production and shipbuilding (think Titanic!). In the 21st century, however, manufacturing has given way to services, including a significant high tech presence as reflected in its recent emergence as a cyber-security hub, winning contracts from US agencies. Queens University Belfast Centre for Secure Information Technologies is the UKs largest university centre for cyber-security research. QUB has also produced a majority of partners at Goldblatt McGuigan. The Belfast-based firm provides services covering accounting, audit, taxation, business advisory, forensic accounting and corporate finance.

Studio Rock Commercialisti Associati (Milan, Italy)It is said that All roads lead to Rome, but Milan is the fashion capital of Italy and, some would claim, the world, thanks to such firms as Armani, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana. And fashion is not all; it is Italys industrial center, home to such industries as textile and garment manufacturing, automotive, chemical, industrial machinery, and publishing. It is also the site of Italys stock exchange, and, for high culture, the La Scala Opera. Milans metropolitan area has the 4th highest GDP in Europe and stands at 6th place among other world economies. It is in the midst of this vibrant and diverse business environment that Studio Rock Commercialisti Associati provides tax, mergers & acquisitions, consultancy and advisory services to companies and entrepreneurs.

NUCASE (Angola & Portugal)Portugal opened the European era of maritime exploration and conquest in the early 15th century, ruling over lands that now constitute 53 sovereign states, including Angola. To this day, nearly a quarter of a billion people speak Portuguese, making it the sixth most spoken language in the world. Having relinquished the last of its imperial holdings in 2002, Portugal, one of the original members of the Eurozone, is now thoroughly Eurocentric. With six offices and a multidisciplinary team of approximately 200 professionals, NUCASE provides services to over 1600 companies, associations and public entities, addressing the challenges of a rapidly changing business environment. In 2007, the firm opened its first international office in Luanda, creating NUCASE ANGOLA, in response to requests from Portuguese business interests.

Dorfman Abrams Music LLC (New Jersey, USA)New Jersey is full of contrasts. It is the only US state in which every county is part of a metropolitan area. Yet it is also home to the largest shoreline nature preserve on the East Coast. It has the highest density of railroads and highways of any state, but the million-acre Pinelands National Reserve has a population density of merely 15 people per square mile. The industries lining the Jersey Turnpike create some of the most powerful pollutants in the world, while the 17 trillion gallon Kirkwood-Cohansey aquifer contains some of the purest water in the U.S. Dorfman Abrams Music is a CPA and advisory firm that helps diverse businesses and organizations overcome obstacles and achieve their goals in this land of contrasts.

Group Expert Consulting (Romania)For most of its history, the region known since 1862 as Romania has been fought over by migrating people from Greece, Rome, Turkey, Germany and Russia. So it is not surprising that Romania hosts some of the worlds most impressive castles, mostly built as a defense against invaders between the 14th and 18th centuries. Castles havent been much needed since the collapse of the Soviet Union except as tourist attractions. Romanias transition to a free-market economy began with the adoption of its new constitution in 1991, continued with NATO membership in 2004 and EU membership in 2007. The global downturn of 2008 has created challenges that Group Expert Consulting has helped its clients meet through their provision of accounting, assurance, financial and tax consulting services.

Cohen & Company (Ohio, USA)Cleveland, Ohio is probably most known around the world as the home of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. For a while, it was also notorious for the river that runs through it, the Cuyahoga, the river that caught fire. In the past decade, however, Cleveland has emerged as a leading example of revitalization. Cohen & Company has played its part in this phenomenon through its focus on helping privately held companies and entrepreneurs seize opportunity. In executing this strategy, 250 employees service clients from offices in Cleveland, Akron and Youngstown, Ohio, and in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The firms deployment of technical acumen to advise its clients has resulted in its rise to become one of the Top 100 accounting firms in the United States.

Roth & Company, P.C. (Iowa, USA)Without Iowa, the United States might well get hungry. The state ranks first in beef, pork, corn, soybean and grain production. Its family farms are so productive that the average farm grows enough food and fiber to feed 279 people. Yet in spite of the importance of the states agriculture, its capital city, Des Moines, is the third largest U.S. insurance center, as well as a hub for publishing, manufacturing, agribusiness, finance, government, retail and wholesale trade. Des Moines Roth & Company emphasizes the use of experienced professionals in its practice. Some business owners find high turnover among their professional service providers disturbing. Roth & Company addresses this problem through a personnel structure built around experienced professionals that develop long-term professional relationships with their clients.

Peregrine Corporate Services (Isle of Man)It is no insult to say that the Isle of Man is an oddity. Located in the Irish Sea, it is a British Crown dependency whose head of state, Queen Elizabeth, is called the Lord of Man. Though self-governing, its foreign relations and defense are the responsibility of the British Government. And though the United Kingdom is a member of the European Union, the Isle of Man is not. The Isles independence is manifested in the strategic use of tax structures that have resulted in its emergence as an internationally recognized center of excellence for financial services. Thus it is an ideal home for Peregrines services to individuals, companies and trusts who wish to utilize a low tax jurisdiction as part of their tax planning.

One of the hallmarks of the TAG Alliances is the quality of the firms. Regardless of where clients go, you can feel confident that TAG Alliances colleagues can handle matters effectively and efficiently.

But the quality of the members not only benefits their clients. Throughout the year, our members collaborate during panels and presentations at our International Conferences, through our Regional Meetings, and in our Specialty Group forums.

From the connections our members form through these various channels, they have an opportunity to develop as both professionals and partners in a business enterprise. As the knowledge and resources our members continue to share grows, each firm becomes better in both its technical and management skills, while helping the TAG Alliances expand even further in prominence and reputation.

As the economic centers of their respective regions, Miami and Hong Kong were choice International Conference destinations. They also offer unique tourist attractions such as Miamis world famous beaches and Hong Kongs breathtaking skyline.

    International Conferences

Spring 2014 - Miami, Florida, USAIn the spring of 2014, TAG Alliances members gathered together in Miami, Florida, where they were able to experience the nightlife of South Beach and the natural beauty of the Everglades. Guests were treated to the local flavor of Miami with a walking and food tour through the Little Havana neighborhood while members enjoyed entertaining and informative sessions. Retired Ambassador John Maisto delivered the keynote address, where he spoke about the recent growth in Latin America. On the second day, Alan Koltin, one of the most highly respected consultants in the accounting industry, talked to the members about what makes a professional firm truly great. Finally, members and their spouses enjoyed a wonderful Gala dinner at the Villa Vizcaya, an elegant mansion created as a winter retreat by James Deering, a founder of the International Harvester Company.

    International Conferences

Fall 2014 - Hong KongPeriodically, the TAG Alliances take a break from their typical format of holding one conference in North America and one in Europe to showcase another part of the world. This October, Asia was selected for the region, and Hong Kong was the host city. As a gateway city where East meets West, Hong Kong is one of the most diverse places on earth. Victor Chu, an alumnus of the TAG Alliances and now Chairman of First Eastern Investment Group, fascinated members with his thoughts on what lies ahead for Hong Kong and mainland China as they continue to adopt western business practices, and the desire for democracy grows within the region. Terri Morrison, best selling author of Kiss, Bow, or Shake Hands, enlightened members about the cultural differences they need to know when doing business in Asia and elsewhere. The Gala dinner was one that members would never forget. Held at the Aberdeen Marina Club, guests were treated to a multi-course meal as entertainers replayed scenes from traditional Asian theater.

TAGLaw Contacts Jim Baumgartner of Black Helterline (Oregon, USA) and John Sullivan of Harper Grey (British Columbia, Canada) have co-authored the article Enforcing Money Judgments Across the United States Canada Border. Black Helterline Associate Britta Warren and Harper Grey Articled Student, Sean Foote, also contributed. The article, which focuses on an important issue to border states and provinces, was recently published in various legal publications. Over time, the two firms have formed a valuable relationship through TAGLaw, and they believe initiatives such as this will provide further opportunities for them to collaborate on advising and litigating cross-border disputes.

LEVERAGING CONNECTIONSThe ability to connect with other members on important client matters, whether inbound our out, is a primary staple of the TAG Alliances. However, the additional benefits of these connections have no limits. Members discover many creative ways to utilize these resources and connections throughout the TAG Alliances. This can take shape in the form of members co-authoring an article together, which is then published in multiple publications; connecting with other member firms to discuss firm management or marketing issues; allowing us to assist in the promotion and aggregation of member content and information; or a myriad of other creative examples. As an organization, we continually strive to provide our members with resources and venues to maximize these connections.

Located just north of Vancouver, Whistler is one of worlds most popular skiing destinations. It was also the site of many events during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Keep Portland Weird is the unofficial slogan of Oregons capital. This accurately reflects the unique and eclectic culture of the city and its people.

    LEVERAGING CONNECTIONS

Marketing & Branding Example GuideThis year, we developed the Member Marketing & Branding Example Guide that shows members how they can capitalize on the TAG Alliances membership in their marketing and branding initiatives. The 21-page guide includes a number of areas such as websites, stationery, email signatures, public relations, advertisements, multimedia, signage and more. Members can access the document in the TAGLaw, TIAG and TAG-SP Resource Centers and it is also highlighted for new members during Marketing Orientations.

In the last year we have been able to rely on our TIAG colleagues for quick and valuable responses on a number of issues. For example, Rochelle Pettit of GALLINA LLP (Northern California, USA) assisted us with a manufacturing proposal which was very helpful as we bid on an industry that was not one of our primary areas of focus. Then, when our firm was evaluating our current roles and titles, we reached out to the group, and Marina Contabil (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), Samet & Company (Massachusetts, USA), Cohen & Company (Ohio, USA) and Anderson, Anderson & Brown (Scotland) all provided great insights on the issue.

DEEPER CONNECTIONSThe generosity of our members is a regular point in conversations with prospective members who take notice of our goodwill endeavors. Most recently, in late 2014, TAG Foundation trustees approved the disbursement of $10,000 USD from the foundations funds to Doctors Without Borders / Mdecins Sans Frontires (MSF) for their Ebola relief efforts in West Africa. With more than 9,000 reported cases, 5,000 deaths, and a direct or indirect impact on jurisdictions where we have members, we wanted to take an active leadership role in helping to alleviate the devastating effects of this humanitarian crisis by supporting the heroic efforts of Doctors Without Borders. We are all connected as professionals, but more importantly as human beings, and that connection runs very deep.

The impact of politics and the media in covering the Ebola crisis, has only been to sow fear, hysteria and more sadly, division. We want to change that with positive efforts and energy. This and other TAG Foundation initiatives speak to the very heart of what the TAG Alliances are about.

Peter Appleton Jones, Chairman & Founder of The TAG Alliances and TAG Foundation Trustee

Doctors Without Borders / Mdecins Sans Frontires (MSF)

MSF, known in English as Doctors Without Borders, was officially created in 1971 with 300 volunteers. It now maintains 30,000 aid workers at any one time.

In some 70 different countries, MSF provides medical aid where it is needed

mostin armed conflicts, epidemics, natural disasters, and other crisis

    situations.

MSF teams provide services ranging from basic vaccination campaigns, to

maternal and pediatric care, to fighting neglected diseases, to complex surgery.

MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999.

Although MSF was founded in France, it now has 19 national offices and 9 branch

    offices around the world.

We thank all of our members around the World for their generosity in helping with our

Ebola Relief Efforts in West Africa.

A CONNECTED SAFE HAVENDaily, I look around the world to see how our members are faring in their one hundred countries. I also look at our web site to catch up on the stories of how our members are faring within the TAG Alliances family.

Sadly, in too many countries, it is like watching a bad movie. Political unrest, economic stress, unemployment, inflation crises, deflation crises, banking crises, debt crises, discord with neighboring countries, politicians behaving badly, on and on - you name it, we seem to have it in abundance.

Happily, as I read the TAG Alliances news from members, I get a much rosier picture. We are indeed fortunate, through our worldwide connections, to have such a strong, vibrant and productive alliance. Members who have been with us from the beginning seventeen years ago and members who joined in the last year, all have positive stories to tell, all have friends in places they never dreamed of, and all play a vital role in bringing people and businesses from around the world together.

My thanks to each of you for the important part you play in the success of our members in so many countries and in keeping us all connected.

This small team truly appreciates your friendship and your international collegiality.

  • Connections

LAST WORDAs is the norm with a growing organization, much changed for the better during 2014. There were new firms joining TAG Alliances, new locations at which we held conferences, new success stories among and between TAGLaw and TIAG firms, new learning experiences, and new stories of humanitarian aid around the world. One fundamental stayed constant however: our connection to each other.

These connections are what distinguish TAG Alliances. Connection to each other means better responsiveness, better accountability, better service and better results.

So our last word for 2014 is to connect. Within your firm by involving your colleagues in TAG Alliances or by involving them in international charity by holding a special day for the benefit of TAG Foundation, within your practice and your community by letting your clients and referral sources know how deep and broad and effective your coverage is around the world, or within the alliances by calling, emailing, visiting, or collaborating with your fellow members on a project.

We look forward to 2015 and the many ways TAG Alliances can continue to be part of your firms success and part of your individual professional and personal lives. Perhaps you will connect with each other through a video call, a shared dinner at a conference, a client matter, a phone call, a TAG Academy event or even a meeting in a foreign land during a family vacation. Each experience can be rewarding and fulfilling.

Connect regularly with us as well. We welcome your feedback and especially your successes. We welcome your firm news, your blogs and your recommendations of new firms and locations. And, of course, we welcome your continued membership and participation.

Its how we stay connected. See you in Edinburgh in May.
