A Short Story

Staring Through the Fence

(part 1)

Staring through the fence, the boy wondered if there was any other place on Earth other than the camp. If there was, he did not know of it. The boy had been there all his short 9 year life. Then he stared fero-ciously at the sky, hoping that it would reveal an answer. It didn’t.

All his life he had been woken up by a bucket of cold water at five in the morning and forced to work under the threat of the whip to smash rub-ble into smaller bits of rubble for a purpose that the boy knew not. At three in the afternoon he was given 10 minutes to eat a half full bowl of gruel for lunch and then carried on working till ten in the evening.

The boy was constantly exhausted and often got whipped for not work-ing fast enough. He would sob gently in the corner, wishing for a better life. But this was the only life he knew.

Grey clad soldiers with fierce looking guns patrolled the perimeter of the small camp while deadly machine guns sat on each corner of a five me-tre high metal fence. The boy often observed the defences and timeta-bles of the camp in his free time, more from boredom than figuring a way to get out. It was probably that which saved his life. However, his daily routine of smashing rubble was about to change drastically, even though the boy didn’t know it…to be continued.

Fashion Trends The world of clothes offers the ability to clad your exterior in your own

unique style. Fashion icons such as Kendall and Kylie Jenner are releasing

a brand new clothing line as they are partnering with Topshop. You can

get your hands on their exclusive pieces on the Topshop website. As well

as having the world of Kendall and Kylie we have our own former fashion

designer here at Chalfonts…Mrs Procopi! She definitely gives Kendall and

Kylie a run for their money.

Game Review – Tom Clancy’s The Division The Division is a perfect homage to the late Tom Clancy who indulged him-

self in entertaining both young adults and adults with his series of books

and games.

The Division is an action packed, adventurous story set in a post-

apocalyptic world. One of its many strengths is that it is an open world on

one server where you can interact with people from around the world.

This game gives us an insight into Clancy’s brilliant imagination and ability

to create an alternate world in which gamers can immerse themselves.

The development team have engaged the world with realistic graphics,

music and sound in which gamers can feel like they are part of the adven-

ture!

Chris Davis (Year 11)

Sports Relief Along with mum, Katie, her brother Daniela

and dog Molly took part in the 3 miles at

Wycombe. Katie was proud to earn her med-

al. As a team (including my 5km (200 length)

swim), we raised over £500.

Interview with Mark McGuinness Mark McGuinness is an England and Arsenal centre back. He is fantastic

at football and that is why he is where he is now, playing for one of the

best teams.

He said that his height has helped him a lot playing centre back because

you need to be tall to be in the opponents’ box scoring headers. What

also can sometimes come with height is strength.

Every good football team wants a big strong centre back in defence to

clear the ball from the danger zone quickly.

Mark also said that his pace and agility help as well. When he gets the

ball in defence he can just run down the middle of the field, play a long

pass through to the winger, who crosses it in, marks, heads it and

GOAL!!!!!!!
