The Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) has extended an invitation to all VCOSS members to attend and participate in the national Advocacy Day on 27th August at Federal Parliament, Canberra ACT. Please note that VCOSS, along with all of the COSS network, will be participating and present on the day. Please refer to the ACOSS invitation that has been sent to all members for further information.

CONFERENCES SCHOOL SUPPORT SERVICES CONFERENCE
Below is a link to the Geelong SSS Conference Program and registration form for the 01 September 2014. Please circulate this to anyone you think may be interested in attending. Whilst it is primarily directed toward SSS, other school-based welfare focussed professionals eg. Chaplains, well-being staff, house leaders, year level coordinators etc. may wish to attend. Those people wishing to register will need to complete the registration form (1 form per person), scan and email to myself [email protected] or fax to: 5248 7154. Invoices will be forwarded once registration is received. Registrations close 15
th August. Places are limited according to venue capacity – book early to avoid disappointment!

We are touring two fantastic productions in Term 4: The National Gallery of Victoria's workshop for Year 4 -
Year 9 students Pointing at the Moon and Impro Melbourne will be offering Impro Zone for Year 5 - 12 and
Fairytale Cookbook for Prep to Year 6 students.
This is also your last chance to book something from our On Call program that is available throughout the
year. The productions we have on offer are: The Art of Deep Listening by Identity Records; Polyglot Theatre’s
Paper Planet; Bush Toys by The Lomandra Project; The Memorandium by Barking Spider Visual Theatre; Live
Radio Play Sound Effect Workshop by Milke; True Stories by Express Media; Short Pants No Holes by Barking

EVENTS GRANT SUCCESS
Students in schools in our region will benefit from the grant received from the Geelong Connected Communities. Last week Karlie Langdon from BATForce was presented with the cheque for $5,000 by Mariella Valitutti, manager of the Bendigo Bank at 62 Ryrie Street.
BATTLE OF THE BANDS – GOLDEN PLAINS
The Golden Plains Youth FReeZA Development Team have organised the 2014 FReeZA Push Start Battle of the
Bands All Ages Event. This year it will be held at the Meredith Memorial Hall, 61 Staughton Street. 7.30pm –
10.30pm. Gold coin entry.
Come and support our local young bands perform in front of a panel of judges.
Imogen Brough, singer/ song writer from Geelong, will be guest performer.

WEAR IT PURPLE DAY
See attached headspace Geelong’s awareness campaign created by their Youth Future Crew for Wear it Purple Day coming up on August 29
th 2014
People of any age can participate in this competition, by tagging a photo on facebook of you wearing purple, and a caption about Wear it Purple Day you go in the running to WIN awesome JBL headphones and speakers! There will also be JB Hi-Fi vouchers for second and third place; these will be drawn out of a hat!
