    ABSTRACT

    The primary objective of this study was to determine the level of

    participation and awareness of the residents of Brgy. Poblacion, Dumalag,

    Capiz in solid waste management program. The specific questions were:

    1. What is the respondents socio-economic characteristic such as

    age, sex, educational attainment, number of household members, and

    monthly income?

    2. What is the respondents level of awareness on the solid waste

    management program of the Municipality of Dumalag?

    3. What is the respondents level of participation on the solid waste

    management program of the Municipality of Dumalag?

    4. Is there a significant difference in the respondents level of

    awareness when they are group according to age, sex, educational

    attainment, number of household members, and monthly income?

    5. Is there a significant difference in the respondents level of

    participation when they are group according to age, sex, educational

    attainment, number of household members, and monthly income?

    There were 50 residents from Brgy. Poblacion, Dumalag, Capiz who

    were used as respondents of the study. Its main goal is to know the level of

    participation and awareness of the residents toward solid waste

    management program.

    This study used survey and correlation technique of the descriptive

    method of research. The instrument used was questionnaire. The statistical

    tools were frequency, percentage, mean, t-test and analysis of variance.

    Findings

    For the socio-demographic characteristic of the residents in terms of

    sex, females are more dominant than males. In terms of age, the mean

    age was 40 and the number of respondents who belong to the mean age

    and above is higher than those residents who belong to below mean.

    College graduates are also dominant in terms of highest educational

    attainment and mostly of the respondents earn Php. 10, 302.02 and below

    in terms of the estimated monthly income. In terms of the household size,

    majority of the respondents belong to the 5 household size and above

    bracket.

    The level of awareness of the residents resulted to slightly aware trait

    and the level of participation on solid waste management was

    moderately participated behavior.

    In terms of level of awareness of the residents toward solid waste

    management, it is dependent on their sex and their highest educational

    attainment. The t-value for the sex was 3.10 which is higher than the

    tabular t-value of 2.0096 at 0.05 level of significance. While the F value for

    the highest educational attainment was 7.10 and is higher than the

    tabular F value of 2.87 at 0.05 level of significance. This meant that there is

    a significant difference in the level of awareness of the respondents when

    grouped according to age and highest educational attainment.

    In terms of the level of participation of the residents toward solid

    waste management, it is dependent on their highest educational

    attainment. The F value for the highest educational attainment was 9.12

    which is higher than the tabular F value of 2.87 at 0.05 level of

    significance. This all meant that there is a significant difference in the level

    of participation of the residents toward solid waste management when

    grouped according highest educational attainment.
