ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF BALAMAND

The University of Balamand is a private, non-profit, independent, Lebanese educational institution of higher learning. It is dedicated to the study of the arts, sciences, and professional fields that serve the interests of the community of Lebanon and the Arab East. The University is committed to excellence in these fields and is forward-looking in the spirit of the 21st Century. Accordingly, the University holds the view that thought without application and relevance to human needs is incomplete. Conversely, practicality and applied knowledge not based on thought, tradition, morality, and spirit is lacking. The University is open to all; it does not discriminate on the basis of religion, race, sex, nationality, or physical disability.

The University is administered by the President, assisted by Vice-Presidents, Deans, Directors, and other Officers. The President and his assistants are accountable to a Board of Trustees of 25 members.

The University of Balamand operates and manages the University of Balamand in Dubai (UOBD).

AL KURAH CAMPUSThe Kurah campus, located on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean in the west and offering views of the seasonally snow-capped mountains of Lebanon in the east, is spread over 500,000 square meters of undulating terrain forested with small oak trees. This campus comprises over thirty buildings distributed across different areas.

BEINO, AKKAR CAMPUSThe Issam M. Fares Faculty of Technology (IFFT) has its own campus in Beino - Akkar, North Lebanon. The main objective of this campus is to help develop the remote region by making high quality education accessible to everyone. The Beino, Akkar campus offers majors in various fields. The campus opened its doors in October 2012.

DEKOUANEH, ALBA CAMPUSThe Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA) is the first national institution for higher education in Lebanon. Since its creation in 1944, ALBA stands out as a leader in the field of Fine Arts and Design in the Middle East. In 1988, l’Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA) joined the University of Balamand.

The Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences, the Saint George Faculty of Postgraduate Medical Education, the Faculty of Business and Management, and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences have some of their facilities located in the headquarters of the University of Balamand, l'Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA), Dekouaneh.

While the twinning of the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences and the Saint George Faculty of Postgraduate Medical Education with St. George’s Hospital remains.

We are currently offering a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.), a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Economics, a Bachelor of Sciences (B.S.) in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology at the Dekouaneh campus.

SOUK EL GHARB, ALEY CAMPUSThe 48,000 square-meter campus is strategically situated on one of the most beautiful locations of Mount Lebanon, offering a much needed choice for students in the region, from Beirut, and from surrounding areas. The campus opened its doors in September 2014 and offers a variety of majors from Business Administration, to Mass Communication, Sciences (Pre-Med), Engineering and Health Sciences.

LIBRARYThe University of Balamand main Library (Issam M. Fares Library Learning Center [IFLLC]) is located at the heart of the “Path of Learning”. The IFLLC offers different facilities, including classrooms, computer labs, e-classrooms, videoconference rooms, group-study rooms, and meeting rooms. The UOB Library system includes, in addition to the IFLLC, two ALBA Libraries (one in Dekouaneh and one in the main campus), the Library of the St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology, the Souk El Gharb campus Library, and the Issam M. Fares Faculty of Technology Library in Akkar campus.

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP

Financial Aid can cover from 10% to 40% of the tuition fees for undergraduate. Financial Aid is awarded on the basis of need first and academic performance second. To be eligible for Financial Aid, an undergraduate student:- Must be accepted or enrolled at UOB on a full-time basis. An undergraduate student is considered a full-time student if registered 12 credits and above during the Fall and Spring semester, 6 credits during the Summer semester of an Academic Year. - Must demonstrate financial need. - Must be in good academic standing (showing satisfactory academic performance).

Application ProcessNewly applying students to UOB or continuing UOB students should submit a Financial Aid application filled by the applicant and his/her parents along with the required documents. Applications should be submitted online with the necessary required documents before the end of June.

The Graduate Assistantship Program aims in advancing graduate studies by attracting academically good students who are expected to support the UOB academic mission and research. These assistantships may cover from 20% to 50% of the tuition fees and the selected students are allocated up to 20 hours per week (for a 50% Assistantship). Applications to this Program are submitted through the respective Faculties and reviewed before the start of each academic semester.

AGREEMENT :

No application is needed to qualify to this grant.When two or more siblings are enrolled at UOB during the same period, they are entitled to a fee reduction provided that they are enrolled on a full-time basis and maintaining a Semester Average above 75 at the end of each semester with a clear academic status. The second sibling will be awarded 7.5%, and the third sibling a 12.5% deduction of their tuition fees.

Deferred payment is handled during the registration process through the Comptrollers’ Office (Monthly installments with 0% interest).

The University of Balamand offers Athletic Scholarships for students who are eligible to be varsity team members. The main objective of the Athletic Scholarship is to provide talented students, who play sports, the opportunity to study at UOB and compete in university sports. Students should be enrolled on a full-time basis, maintain a Semester Average above 75 with a clear academic status at the end of each semester and have applied for Financial Aid. The Selection Committee determines the amount of needed scholarships per year according to approved budget by the University Administration, this percentage may vary between 10% - 20% coverage of the tuition fees taking into consideration that no student is allowed more than 70% of total financial support.

TRANSFER CREDITS

Admission to a degree in the graduate programs is granted through the Office of Admissions and Registration, which receives and processes all applications, evaluates credentials, and issues notification letters.

Standards under which students are admitted for study in these programs are established and monitored by the departments and Faculties concerned. Acceptance into the graduate program is based on the candidate meeting University admissions requirements and the recommendation of the Faculty Graduate Admission Committee.

An applicant may be admitted on probation if he/she has an undergraduate cumulative average of at least 75 or its equivalent as evaluated by the Department the applicant wishes to join.

An applicant with Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in engineering is expected to normally have a cumulative average of 80 to be considered to the relevant Master of Science (M.S.) program, otherwise he/she may be accepted to the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) program if the average is 70 or above.An applicant with B.E. degree in engineering may be accepted conditionally to the M.S. program if the cumulative average is normally at least 75.

Full-time students must enroll in at least 9 credit hours per semester and a maximum of 12 credit hours. (See appropriate Faculty regulations)

Students transferring to the graduate programs may be granted transfer credits up to 40% of the total credits required of the degree. Transferred credits apply only to courses in which the applicant had earned a minimum grade of 80% and equivalent incontent to courses offered at UOB.

The concerned Department/Faculty decides on the equivalency of courses.

SPECIAL ORIENTATION PROGRAM (SOP)

Undergraduate and graduate applicants holding DELF/DALF with a degree level B2 (scoring at least 50/100 and 15/25 on the writing component (production écrit)) or C1, will be admitted as FREN201.

Undergraduate and graduate applicants holding DELF/DALF with a degree level B1 will be admitted as FREN102. They must successfully complete FREN102 within the first semester of enrollment.

Undergraduate and graduate applicants must pass the French Entrance Exam (Test de Positionnement)

The intensive English Program is intended for applicants who have been selected for admission but have not met the English Language Proficiency Requirement.

The program consists of two levels: ENGL002 and ENGL003. Students enrolled in ENGL002 are entitled to register for an additional 6 remedial credits if applicants received their high school education in the Arabic language.

Students enrolled in ENGL003 may earn a maximum of 4 credits toward a degree while working towards achieving the level of English needed for carrying a full load in the regular program.

The Special Orientation Program is designed to prepare students who had their secondary education outside Lebanon and those who have obtained the appropriate Technical Baccalaureate for the major of their choice. Cases are studied individually and acceptances are issued upon the recommendation of the Admissions Committee.
