Question 1

In part(a)(i), the candidate was able to define the ‘golden mean’. In(a)(ii), he/she was not able to point out the

design that was most pleasing to the eyes according to the ‘golden mean’. In part (b), he/she was able to

name two forms of balance. In part (c)(i), he/she was able to provide a design sketch of the blouse with design

details, in(c)(ii),he/she was just able to write a design description on design details showing the use of

gradation and balance.

Question 2

In part (a)(i), the candidate was able to draw a coloured sketch with brief descriptions on the design features

and fabrics. In (a)(ii), he/she was only able to suggest one consideration when designing the dress. In part

(b)(i), he/she was able to construct the pattern of the front skirt panel with a skirt block as well as a production

drawing of an inverted pleat as required in (b)(ii). In (b)(iii), he/she was able to suggest the fabric material and

provide with a reason.

In parts (a), the candidate was able to state two personal factors that could affect the lifestyle of a person. In

part (b), he/she was only able to give one preference of a green consumer towards the choice of apparel

products. In part (c), he/she was unclear about the approach that could help to protect the environment

regarding the design of fashion.

(a) The candidate only gave one Haute Couture house, but it was one from Spain.

(b) The candidate gave three correct answers and showed a good understanding on the characteristics of Haute

Couture fashion.

Question 2

(a) The candidate was able to design a pink-style jacket with adequate features. The candidate also highlighted

the features by labels.

(b) The candidate only stated one socio-cultural factor. The second point in the answer was not a

socio-cultural factor.

Question 3

(a) The answers were correct.

(b) The candidate gave a wrong spelling of Qing Dynasty. However, the candidate was able to state, but not to

describe the design features.

(c) The patterning methods suggested by the candidate were not commonly found on qipao, indicating that the

candidate might not be familiar with the costume.

(d) The candidate designed two outfits, but they were very different from the original styles. The explanation

also did not tell clearly how they were developed from the original designs. The diagrams seemed not so

related to the Chinese costumes in the question.

The candidate was able to name two common brands. However, the style of the outfit was rather simple in the

answer. The candidate also gave a very simple description. The point for design features was missing and the
