APPENDIX 1 – TELEPHONE INTERVIEW GUIDE

Task: Perform 10 telephone interviews of regulators, IP offices, IP lawyers, Universities and local IP

    experts

Objective: compare the regulatory environment and IP-related market practices across the region

    through telephone interviews.

    INTRO

The project is aimed to be quite practical with real-world actions and deliverables rather than being a

    theoretical/academic paper.

It will include the following stages:

    - Understand the current IP environment and market practices in the region through telephone interviews and background research

    - Look at how IP success stories (licensing and JV, raising finance through IP-backed lending, raising exit value for investors (IP for exit)) could be applicable/adapted to the region

    - Assess the potential for IP brokerage in the region based on our experience as the leading patent broker in Europe, identify potential service providers who could act as brokers and develop toolkit for brokerage

    - Look at best practice for IP liquidity and suggest approaches to improve liquidity in each country

    - Run visibility workshops (one per country) to provide educational background on the roles of IP and raise awareness of the project

    - Identify 1 innovative SME per country and provide tools related to IP ownership, protection, confidentiality, valuation, commercialisation paths, access to funding and pragmatic guidelines

    - Provide some mentoring to SMEs on their IP journey. - Final report

    FEEDBACK

The table below include the feedback received. At the time of writing (1 August 2017), no feedback had

    been received from ITCC.

    Time-stamp

    What is your company name?

What were your reasons for applying for IP mentoring?

What work did ClearViewIP undertake for you?

What was the impact of the mentoring for your company?

How satisfied were you with the mentoring provided?

Would further mentoring work be beneficial to your company. If so what activities in particular would make an impact?

    7/28/2017 10:18:06

mBrainTrain We needed a revision of our current IP status and documents and wished to set up the necessary steps towards creating a viable IP strategy

They reviewed our PCT applications, gave recommendations what to do with this specific application. They also advised on what should we do next in terms of keeping our IP in place and what to do next.

The impact was great, we are considering to continue our work with them in future.

    Very satisfied

Yes, I think the further mentoring would be beneficial. It would help reviewing our current ideas, check the patentability, and advise us on how to proceed with each one of them

    Happy Feet LLC

The main reason why we applied for IP mentoring was that we believe IP provides a useful tool for attracting investors and also monitoring the activities of competitors will let us prevent competition getting too close from our activities.

ClearViewIP did a research on patent landscape and TM. They also made a Search strategy for our service.

It was very beneficial for us, since we were able to know the real competition that we have. Now, statistically we know where we have a good potential to start with our service first and then where next to expand.

    Very satisfied

Mentoring on how to get a Copyright and License for the service that our company is providing.

    7/29/2017 10:07:22

    VRET (Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy)

We do not know a lot about IP. Also we do not have enough people who are introduced with IP.

Research about competition, information about contracts, security and how to think about. Also they informed us how to protect our product.

I was very surprised with lot of positive things that they learned us. There were some things that we did not know that are important for us. I would love to continue to work with them .

    Very satisfied

    YES ;)

    7/30/2017 20:58:48

STSS - Smart Traffic Safety Systems

To try and understand the IP landscape in our area, to get an idea of our possible options for IP strategy, and to get a rough idea of the value of our IP.

    Patent analytics and landscape

We believe that we have a bit clearer picture about the situation now, and the possibilities for our company to acquire a leading position

    Very satisfied

Yes, it would be beneficial. We would benefit from more in depth analysis; analysis/proposal for our strategy for expansion (licensing, partnerships in production, M&A...); determining the value of our IP.

    OV Nutrition

We applied for IP mentoring for developing our product and in the same time learn how to protect our company values

ClearViewIP did 2 training: one basic presentation and another further IP training in Albania, and after selecting our company for mentoring they undertook mentoring sessions via Skype call, email and further explanatory attached materials.

We learned the basics of IP and how we can apply these knowledge to create the desired result for our product. Our company is still in the early stages but we have big plans so we are laying the fundamentals and we want them to be right.

    Very satisfied

This IP mentoring was very beneficial for our company since it occurred in the right time for us. We learned some basics and we are eager to learn further more. We are interested in learning more regarding trade secrets and increase thus our company value.
