Description:

Required trainer and assessor competencies:Standard 15 The NVR registered training organisation provides quality training and assessment across all of its operations, as followsSNR 15.4 Training and assessment are delivered by trainers and assessors who:

a) have the necessary training and assessment competencies determined by the National QualityCouncil or its successors; and

b) have the relevant vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered or assessed, and

The National Skills Standards Council states to be a trainers and assessor you must:

I. hold the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from the TAE10 Training and Education Training Package or

II. be able to demonstrate equivalent competencies to the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment from the TAE10 Training and Education Training Package or

III. work under the direct supervision of a person who has the competencies specified in (i) or (ii) andbe able to demonstrate vocational competencies at least to the level of those being delivered.

(Vocational competence is defined as broad industry knowledge and experience, usually combined with a relevant industry qualification.) From April 1 2015, Standard 1 clauses 1.13 – 1.20 of Standards for Registered Training

Organisations (RTOs) 2015 will be implemented.

This qualification will be comprised from the following units of competence in accordance with the above:

Training and Assessment Arrangements The key clients for this training are year 11/12 students enrolled at Launceston College who

are seeking a career in the beauty industry. Students enrol in a 50 hour course, delivered over 10 weeks Students will also train in Salon L.C.– a simulated beauty/hairdressing salon located at

Launceston College. This training occurs in classrooms, computer labs and the industry standard training facility

– ‘Salon LC’ Launceston College staff have access to training and assessment resources to support

students with special needs including: Individual mentoring for students with literacy and numeracy needs Student Advisor Program which includes support with attendance, referral and other

pastoral care related matters Counselling services provided by a Drug and Alcohol Counsellor, Social Worker and

Guidance Officer, including learning needs assessments Careers counselling service and access to various job networks

The VET Hairdressing Coordinator delivers and assesses all units. The employability skills, as required by industry, for this qualification are embedded in the

delivery of this program. Tasmanian Secondary Colleges RTO recognises AQF qualifications and statements of

attainment issued by other registered training organisations. The opportunity for RPL, as indicated in the Student Induction Guide, will be offered to all

Assessment Evidence Requirements:Assessment is validated to ensure;

it meets the requirements of the Training Package;is valid, reliable, flexible and fair;it focuses on the application of knowledge and skill to the standard of performance required in the workplace; andit involves the collection of sufficient, valid, authentic and current evidence to enable a judgement to be made about whether competency has been attained and confirms that workplace and regulatory requirements are met.

Systems, processes, tools and practices are continuously improved when and where necessary in accordance with the above.

Validation and Industry Consultation ArrangementsThe processes used to validate assessment activity in this program are: Annual mandated TSC RTO validation is conducted. Focus areas for validation include:

vocational competence, training and assessment strategies, assessment tools, the off-the-job training environment and industry consultation. The RTO maintains records of validation, and identifies, reports, and implements continuous improvements in relation to this process.

Regular College VET meetings – VET Coordinator meetings throughout the year during which validation, worksite and industry issues along with opportunities for continuous improvement are discussed.

Industry professional development: Professional development occurs on a regular basis through visits to worksites, through discussions with workplace supervisors and management, the coordinator is kept abreast of current industry trends and practices through regular professional development sessions with industry organisations.

Consultation with industry is ongoing via work place visits to students in on-the-job training, ensuring off the job training is also reflective of the industry needs. The Coordinator/Trainer/Assessor consults with workplace supervisor to discuss delivery and assessment of the program to meet students’ needs based on the requirements of the training package.
